YouTube EDU: An Alternative To College?

youtube_eduCollege too expensive? Try YouTube.

It might seem counter-intuitive to look for higher education alongside Avril Lavigne music videos, but the video-sharing site has become a major reservoir of college content.

The Google Inc.-owned YouTube has for the last few years been forging partnerships with universities and colleges. The site recently gathered these video channels under the banner YouTube EDU (http://www.youtube.com/edu).

More than 100 schools have partnered with YouTube to make an official channel, including Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Yale and the first university to join YouTube: UC Berkeley.

There are promotional videos like campus tours, but the more interesting content is straight from the classroom or lecture hall. Many schools have posted videos of guest lecturers, introductory classes and even a full semester’s course.

Just check out all the features and visit YouTube.com/edu for yourself.

How Late Night TV Ads Should Be [Video]

Late night TV ads can offer up some pretty great crap, actually. But the enthusiasm is usually completely over the top, and the example uses for the products often make about as much sense as Amy Winehouse. Which is why they should just adopt this style of salesmanship. [Language is slightly NSFW]

Passenger Loses Her Sh*t

I’m not sure what it is about watching a person freak the f**k out that is so great. But whatever it is, this video has it. As a side note, if I’m ever caught screaming like this on video, just kill me before someone puts it on the Internet.

Weird Japanese Dancing Woman [Video]

Kids, this is what happens when you do too many drugs. You end up in the street, spastically dancing like a maniac for strangers who throw coins at you and put your dumbass up on YouTube. Either that, or Japanese people are just more strange than I already thought.

MTV Launches New Music Site, Censors Music

MTV has hit the nail on the head with their new music video website launched earlier this week.

Think of MTVmusic.com as Hulu for music videos – currently offering thousands of embeddable music videos ranging from Gun’s and Roses’ classics to the newest Rihanna releases, MTV plans on offering the most complete music video archive on the interweb.

The only thing stopping MTVmusic from overtaking YouTube as the go-to music video sharing service is MTV’s inability to play nice on the playground. A perfect example can be found in Weird Al Yankovic’s “Don’t Download This Song.”  As pointed out by CrunchGear, MTVmusic bleeped out the names of file sharing sites to deter people from using non-MTV affiliated music services to download music. Mavs Might Regret Passing on Howard for Artest Deal

We are nearing the point where a Josh Howard for Ron Artest swap would have been a character upgrade for the Mavs.

In a recent YouTube video, Josh Howard was filmed at Allen Iverson’s charity flag football game in July ‘voicing out his true colors’ during the American National Anthem.

When the camera panned to the direction of the recently extremely-troubled Maverick small forward, he states, ” ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ is going on. I don’t celebrate this [expletive]. I’m black.”  He then goes on to make a comment about Barack Obama.

This was first reported by Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News, and has allegedly been ‘handled’ already by Dallas owner Mark Cuban by means of “communication-skill sessions” during camp in upcoming weeks.

Add this to his admission to marijuana use and his arrest for speeding and reckless driving in North Carolina, and now the Mavs are biting their hands when they realize that they probably could have landed defensive menace Artest from the Kings in exchange for Howard.

Who would have ever thought that Artest would ever be the better character guy in a one-for-one swap in any NBA trade?  The Mavs certainly didn’t think so at the beginning of the summer, but now they might be starting to change their mind.
