College Football Week 7 Preview: Cheerleader Edition

cheerwk7-feature

For the first time seemingly all season, last week was rather quiet in the top ten – on the field.  Off the field, the cheerleaders and annual beer pong tournaments were making plenty of noise on campus.  With only a few weeks to go before Halloween gives us the hottest mix of scantily clad girls with BACs pushing 0.4, let’s take a look at this week’s matchups for the best of the best in college football…

No. 1 Florida (5-0) vs. Arkansas (3-2)

Saturday, Oct. 17, 2:30 pm, CBS (HD) / Online

The return of Tim Tebow helped propel the top ranked Gators to a 13-3 win on the road over LSU.  This big time win despite the vulnerability surrounding their top dog made it all but certain that this Florida squad is poised for its third title in the past three years…and no, not even Ryan Mallett can stand in their way this week.

No. 2 Alabama (5-0) vs. No. 22 South Carolina (5-1)

Saturday, Oct. 17, 6:45 pm, ESPN (HD)

After an impressive dismantling of a then-ranked No. 20 Ole Miss team last week, Bama has finally leapfrogged Texas and is enjoying the week from the No. 2 slot.  This week they face another test as they take on Steve Spurrier’s team who has already upset a then-No. 4 ranked Ole Miss team (yes, we can see the trend of Ole Miss’ ranking continually dropping).

No. 3 Texas (5-0) vs No. 20 Oklahoma (3-2)

Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 am, ABC (HD)

And this week Texas will have the opportunity to make a statement with a giant game left on their schedule against the hated Sooners from up north.  This will be a much bigger storyline now that we have the epic McCoy vs. Bradford shootout on the docket.  Expect this to be a Big 12 dogfight – and no, Mike Vick is not invited. 2009 College Football Week Six Preview: Cheerleader Edition

College-Football-WK6

Week 6 is upon us in the land of college football, and many campuses are starting to get hit with the colors of autumn, the crisp coldness in the air, and most importantly, the two or three extra shots needed to keep warm in the student section during the game. With a continual whirlwind knocking the top teams out of the rankings each week, expect more of the same this week. The key matchup will center around the health of Tim Tebow, while the rest of the top ten will be looking over their shoulder (directly at the opposing cheerleading squad) hoping not to get knocked off their top 10 perch.

No. 1 Florida (4-0) at No. 4 LSU (5-0)

Saturday, Oct. 10, 7:00 pm CBS (HD) / Online

Obviously, this is the game of the week and probably the game of the season to this point. And we are hours away from kickoff and still wondering about whether or not Tim Tebow will play and if he does, how effective he will be. Get ready for a great battle in the SEC that could have national title implications down the road.

No. 2 Texas (4-0) vs. Colorado (1-3)

Saturday, Oct. 10, 6:15 pm, ESPN (HD)

This could be a blood bath. Colorado is having a dismal season that has already seen a loss to Colorado State and a trouncing put on them by Toledo, but they haven’t experienced pain yet like they will this coming Saturday night in Texas.

No. 3 Alabama (5-0) at No. 20 Mississippi (3-1)

Saturday, Oct. 10, 2:30 pm CBS (HD) / Online

If this matchup occurred prior to Ole Miss’ SEC opening loss at South Carolina, perhaps we’d be talking about it like the Florida/LSU game. But Mississippi did as we all expected and lost to an unranked team while holding on to a top 5 spot. The question is, can they rebound in their first true test since the Carolina game and show the nation that they are an elite team with a victory over Saban’s Tide?

No. 5 Virginia Tech (4-1) vs Boston College (4-1)

Saturday, Oct. 10, 7:00 pm CBS (HD) / Online

Boston College has been a thorn in the ass for the Hokies in recent past, with the Eagles winning the past three regular season meetings. After big wins over Nebraska and Miami (FL), is this Virginia Tech team battled tested enough to withstand a let down loss to BC?

No. 6 Boise State (5-0) at Tulsa (4-1)

Wednesday, Oct. 14th, 7:00 pm, ESPN (HD)

This game is not until next Wednesday, but this looks to be a great match-up between the top teams in the WAC and C-USA conferences.

An off week for the Trojans after a big win at Cal, but they open right back up on the road with a tough game against the Irish in South Bend next week.

No. 8 Cincinnati (5-0) at No. 23 South Florida (5-0)

Thursday, Oct. 15, 6:30 pm, ESPN (HD)

Yes, you read that correctly, the Bearcats are indeed ranked No. 8. Their next game isn’t until Thursday, October 15, where the smart money is on Cincy falling to a very dangerous and undefeated South Florida squad on the road.

No. 9 Ohio State (4-1) vs. Wisconsin (5-0)

Saturday, Oct. 10, 2:30 pm, ESPN / ABC (HD)

A big game for the Big Ten this weekend as the Badgers take their undefeated record to The Shoe in hopes of burying the Buckeyes back into the middle of the Big Ten race. Ohio State has only allowed 59 points through three games this season and only 14 in the past three. The Wisco run offense vs. Ohio St run defense will be the key to this game.

Two of the top rushing offenses in the nation will be battling it out in Colorado Springs this weekend. The Horned Frogs are no. 13 in the land, while the Falcons sit at no. 2. TCU looks to remain the only unbeaten team in the MWC conference.

COED’s Kick Ass Q & A With The Cast of MTV’s “College Life”

college-life

I really can’t give MTV’s new series “College Life” enough praise.  I’m not a huge fan of the whole reality thing, but since the show is shot by the students themselves it really puts a good spin on a tired genre.

Every episode is chocked-full of the real life drama of being an actual freshman at one of America’s largest party schools – the University of Wisconsin. Check out for yourself, you can watch all the episodes online in full here.

We caught up with the star’s of the show Josh, Kevin, Jordan and Andrea and asked them a few questions about  hooking-up, drinking, studying and if women can be considered pimps and men sluts. (more…)

Best Dunk Ever! [Video]

This video is from the first round of the College Basketball Invitational between Wyoming and Northeaster. Unfortunately for the Wyoming team, they lost. However, Center Adam Waddell did happen to pull off the craziest f**king dunk I have ever seen. I’m sure it happened by accident, and he’s lucky to not be in the hospital drinking chocolate pudding right now. But it is still the best dunk ever.

Wisconsin Band Suspended For Sex, Booze, Hazing

The University of Wisconsin marching band has been suspended indefinitely while allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct are investigated.

The band won’t play Saturday during a nationally televised football game between the No. 18 Badgers and No. 14 Ohio State at Camp Randall Stadium.

The university made the announcement at a hastily called news conference Friday night, saying the behavior is consistent with conduct that put the band on probation in 2006. [NBC Sports]

The 76th annual Mud Bowl was held outside the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the corner of South University and Washtenaw Saturday. SAE defeated Phi Kappa Psi 36-16, never really looking back after scoring the first three touchdowns of the game. It was the 11th straight win for the host squad.  [M Victors]

Despite Poor Economy, Coaches Still Making Bank

Despite Poor Economy, Coaches Still Making Bank

Gas is $4 a gallon—and rising. The economy is struggling. Some believe the worst is yet to come.

But you can’t tell it by college football coaches’ salaries. They’re breaking the bank.

In 1995, Bobby Bowden became the first $1 million coach in college football. Now, the average salary for head coaches at major college football programs exceeds $1 million a year. [Tennessean]
