Well, what do you know–you just got back to the pad, a brand new HDTV in the backseat, and a hefty credit card bill in your back pocket. And while times are tough–as we’ve hard many times before–you just got yourself a shiny 1080P LCD TV and the details of how you financed such a purchase can wait for another day. So, you hook up your beautiful set, fire it up and – crap- you have jack to watch on it.
Sure, you’ve got an Xbox 360 you can give a whirl, and while we all love yelling expletives at prepubescent punks over a game of death match, you want a more fulfilling experience. You want to really immerse yourself in a film and all its high definition glory. Well, bud, head back over to that big box electronics store, pull out that fresh, new credit card, and stock up on a Blu-Ray player and these 5 Blu-Rays that will exploit the wonders of your new set. Everyone goes ga-ga when they make the big screen version of such comic books as Iron Man or Watchmen. But it seems that pretty soon they are going to run out of A-list comic book characters to do movie adaptations. In anticipation of that clustersuck, here are my pick of comic books that should never be made into Hollywood movies: (more…)

Now that movie studios have seen success in The Dark Knight, 300, Sin City and most recently, Alan Moore’s Watchmen, they will almost certainly be clamoring at the door for even more graphic novels to adapt into feature films.
Just like X-Men was followed by utter sh!tstorms like Elektra and Daredevil–even Tim Burton’s brilliant take on the Batman franchise begot Joel Schumacher’s double-trouble nipple-fest, Batman Forever and Batman and Robin–studios will see the revenues collected in the last few years by graphic novel-inspired flicks and rush them to production to collect on the trend.
The first books to go down in flames will be those with established followings and awards under their belts, because they’re the best bet at turning a profit. So before Fox Searchlight goes stamping their name on some self-indulgent reels of celluloid at the expense of timeless art, there are a few names in the comic biz you should know, before everything they’ve touched their pen to becomes a merchandising exercise. If you’re a fan of Watchmen and 80’s cartoons, then you’re going to love this video. Unfortunately, there’s no actual episodes to go along with this teaser trailer, made by animator Happy Harry. But it still looks sweet as hell.
Plus, if you haven’t taken the time to read the graphic novel (or just the Wiki page), then you’ll get the lowdown on the plot before shelling out $11 on a movie ticket – you know, in a campy, Saturday morning cartoon kind of way.
Check out the video here!

There’s no denying it: This year, no movie is more anticipated than Watchmen. Between a massive marketing machine pumping the Internet full of teaser stills, posters and trailers and Sites the Web over (this one included) pushing every tidbit or factoid they can get into their grubby mitts – not to mention that it looks totally F’ing sweet – it’s become common knowledge that Watchmen isn’t just going to be good – it’s going to blow the doors off pretty much every other movie in existence. A couple of months ago we reported that Fox Studios filed a motion to halt the release date of Watchmen by Warner Brothers on March 6th. On December 24th 2008, a judge declared, “Fox owns a copyright consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the Watchmen motion picture.” Last weekend attorney’s began negotiating a settlement.
Last night the matter was settled with Warner Brothers reportedly paying “a sizable cash payment” and reportedly 8.5% of Watchmen’s box office to Fox. Fox also reportedly will get a piece of any sequels or spin-offs produced. If the movie is successful this could be tens of millions of dollars. But the film’s legal troubles aren’t over yet. (more…)

It is almost not fair. This movie has been a cinematic c**k-tease for the last 2 years. It might be part genius and part greedy corporation, but the way they keep spitting out media info for this movie – it is just enough to keep your attention. I have still been waiting to see the giant exploding monster, the owl-mobile, Dr. Manhattan blowing more sh*t up, Ozymandias’ cat and whether they are going to make Rorschach extra ugly looking. I hope these photos will help keep your balls as blue as mine are. (more…)

Watchmen, one of the most anticipated movies of next year, is up against a villain no super hero has been able to defeat; litigation.
On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Allen Feess, denied Warner Brothers motion for a dismissal of a lawsuit filed by 20th Century Fox, claiming Fox owned the exclusive rights to a Watchmen movie.
The basis of the lawsuit is Fox claims it acquired all movie rights to the graphic novel between 1986 and 1990. In 1991, Fox transferred some rights to producer Larry Gordon. Part of the agreement between Fox and Gordon was the option to shop distribution rights to other studios. If a studio were interested, Gordon would buy out Fox’s remaining rights to the film. Fox claims that Warner Brothers or Gordon has paid them for the rights. To make matters worse, according to Variety, Fox isn’t just looking for monetary compensation but to prevent Warner Brothers from ever releasing the movie. A crime to those eagerly awaiting the movie’s release on March 6, 2009. (more…)

At 1:32 in the Watchmen trailer, this pin-up of Sally Jupiter (played by Carla Gugino) appears for only a second. The illustration was done by artist, James Jean. And according to him, the picture plays a far greater role in the scene than the flash in the trailer conveys. Which is why we’re just going to sit here and stare at it for a while…
