Hands-On with NBA 2K10: Preview

nba-2k10-lead

Over the years, I’ve come to expect a lot from 2K Sports. Their games are always top-notch, ultra-realistic and super-connected to the actual sports the games emulate. So it was no surprise when I strolled into 2K’s offices this morning to find the most realistic looking video game I’ve ever seen: NBA 2K10(more…)

Today’s Time-Waster: Blazing Lazers

superlaserracers

If you’re strongly of the opinion that the world of video game racing is sorely lacking in the lasers department, then head over to the Blazing Lazers demo site for the aptly-titled Super Laser Racers.

Fusing top-down race action with the type of blast-and-move business that made Geometry Wars such a frenzied affair, the title keeps things perky with Survivor and Eliminator modes, plus online leagues and a track editor to boot.

A must for all speed demons with dreams of causing destruction with a plasma cannon or laser mine, you can cop the full game for less than ten bucks this Friday by clicking here.

Gamer Grip: The BIGS 2

the-bigs-2-lead

Despite the fact that I’ve been playing and reviewing video games for years, I seriously, seriously suck at baseball games. Watching me play MLB 2K9 would send any serious sports-game fan into an uncontrollable fit of rage from my complete and total lack of skills. And that’s why I like The BIGS 2.

Building on The BIGS franchise, The BIGS 2’s over-the-top, arcade-style game play can cover-up even the worst player’s half-assed attempt at seeming athletic. In this latest release, 2K has juiced-up the “Become a Legend” mode with a fuller story mode that picks up after the “Rookie Challenge” from The BIGS, allowing you to create your player and follow him through from the Mexican minors all the way through to the Hall of Fame.

On top of that, they’ve added Season Mode, with full MLB schedules, stat tracking and roster management, which allows you to keep your fantasy team and your real team in sync. And the awesomely amped arcade action, like Legendary Moves, Batter’s Wheelhouse and Big Slam will make you feel like A-Rod after a trip to the Dominican Republic.

The BIGS 2 is available now on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and Wii

Hands-On: Rhythm Heaven for Nintendo DSi

rhythm-heaven-header

If you like Guitar Hero and Rock Band then Rhythm Heaven for the recently-released Nintendo DSi is going to blow your damn mind. Known in Japan as Rhythm Tengoku Gold and in Europe as Rhythm Paradise, Rhythm Heaven is a musically inclined gamer’s dream, using taps, flicks, holds and slides with the stylus (or your finger) to perform a wide variety of mini-game “tasks,” such as filling up robots with fuel or playing ping pong, all done in-sync with the music. If you get too much off the beat or miss beats entirely, you lose. (more…)

Kill Nazis With The iPhone: Wolfenstein 3D Classic

wolfenstein-3d-header1

The classic first-person-shooter, id Software’s Wolfenstein 3D, is back and bad as hell… on the iPhone! I must say, it’s pretty F’ing awesome. Now, I understand that you might think it weird, at best, to play this game entirely on a touch screen – I did. But after a bit of good, ol’ fashioned Nazi-killing on my 3G, the smooth controls make game-play seamless. Plus, they give you four different options for controls, along with sensitivity adjustments. So no matter how you like to gun down some SS sons-of-bitches, you’ll do it with ease on this app. (more…)

So, I was supposed to have an article about the Olympics together for you, but along my journalistic travels, I came across this game on MiniClip.com called Dune Buggy. And now I don’t have an article about the Olympics. Instead, I have a dune buggy game. If it can keep me from doing my job, I bet it can keep you from doing your job too!

More from E3 : PS3 Loses Another Exclusive Property

I don’t like to talk about how the XBOX360 is better then the PS3. I own a 360, but I’ve played the PS3 and I like it just fine. It’s a solid platform and the game I played on it (Ratchet and Clank) was quite fun. However, if you can’t read the writing on the wall that the PS3 is hurting, you’re either completely blind or hopelessly obsessed.

Yesterday at E3, Square Enix showed a trailer for the next game in their hyper-popular series, Final Fantasy. A series that was first a Nintendo property, and then at the turn of the console wars (when the N64 proved to be the weaker system) swore allegiance to the Playstation platform. Until now. The next game, Final Fantasy XIII (which looks, for all intents in purposes, gorgeous but pretty standard) will be available for both the 360 and the PS3.

Check out the Final Fantasy XIII after the jump! (more…)
