Does the level of one’s personal religious level affect what one studies in college, or even if they go to college?
Does a path of study influence a person’s religious development?
A new study released by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan examines the correlation between these two aspects of young people’s lives.
A lot of people might expect that those who study physical sciences become the least religious during their tenure at school. The research found that this is not the case.
According to reports at Yahoo! Sports, the Cleveland Browns are moving toward an agreement that will send wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Giants in exchange for wide receiver Dominik Hixon along with a 2nd and 5th round pick in this month’s NFL Draft.
This move makes sense for both teams as the Browns are looking to move in a new direction under new head coach Eric Mangini, while the Giants are looking to return to Super Bowl form after jettisoning their troubled star receiver Plaxico Burress.
Edwards would immediately fill the number-one receiver slot for the G-Men, and fit perfectly in a leadership role to help fellow former Michigan Wolverine star wideout Mario Manningham improve on his limited rookie season. Edward’s big body and ability to dominate a game will be music to the ears of quarterback Eli Manning, who thrived with a larger Burress as his primary option.
To continue along the Michigan Connection trail both Edwards and Manningham could team up to help fill the void left by Burress and the recently released former Wolverine and all time Giants receiving leader, Amani Toomer.
Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski has been told he will be fired if he interviews for the head-coaching vacancy with the New York Jets, according to sources.
The interview is scheduled for Monday evening. Despite the threat from athletic director Gene DeFilippo, Jagodzinski plans to do the interview with the Jets, the sources said.
If Jagodzinski is fired, the school will consider three in-house candidates to replace him as head coach — offensive coordinator Steve Logan, defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani and offensive line/assistant head coach Jack Bicknell — a source told ESPN.com’s Pat Forde. [ESPN]
An army of ironworkers, masons, carpenters and laborers are swarming the campus of the University of Michigan these days, as the university undertakes a construction campaign budgeted at $2.5 billion, ranking it among the largest university building programs in the United States.
Nine major buildings for science, medicine, health, art, business, sports, food service and student housing are in various stages of construction here.
They encompass nearly three million square feet, at a cost of about $1.66 billion. Five others are in the design stage. [NYT]
Folks in Cypress, Texas have known about the freakish athleticism of Sam McGuffie since 2004. But thanks to archival high school video footage and this thing called YouTube, four years later, Michigan bound, McGuffie is on the fast track to becoming a household name.
USAToday reports that University of Michigan student, Nicole Matisse, will graduate college this summer. Oooooh, no big deal, right? So are thousands upon thousands of other college students, right?
Right. But, 19-year-old Nicole Matisse has only been there for one year. ONE year, people!
The article states, “As a student at Lahser High School, Matisse had exhausted the curriculum by her junior year. Between the exams she passed on eight advanced placement courses and the eight classes she took at Oakland Community College, she had amassed enough credits to enter the university last fall as a junior.”
This girl is one determined little cookie. Once she got to the university, she took 27 credits in one semester, and said she was so “bored” that she could have easily taken on more credits, because she “craved” them.
