SNL Thursday Update: Really?! With Seth and Amy & OMG Are You Serious?

I don’t know what the SNL folks are smokin’ over at 30 Rockefeller Plaza these days, but I’ve gotsta get me some of that.  For the first time in years, Saturday Night Live is both funny and relevant again.  Sure, it doesn’t hurt that the world is rapidly swallowing itself and the current political arena is chock full o’ highly mockable characters, but it’s the solid writing talent that has resurrected this once American pop culture icon back from the dead.

Case in Point: last night’s Thursday Weekend Update.  The prime time special opened with a spot-on lampoon of Tuesday night’s tediously boring-ass debate, but the real stand-out was the verbal stoning of AIG in Really?! with Seth and Amy and OMG Are You Serious?.

Obama Speech: Any Fair and Balanced Left in the News?

If so, I can’t find it.

So Obama is done giving his speech, and I am flipping between MSNBC with Chris Matthews/Keith Oberman and FOX.

If Matthews and Oberman were any more up Obama’s ass - they would have been covered in sh*t. FOX on the otherhand, might has well have been burning pictures of Obama and were tearing apart every vocal inflection he made.

What ever happened to impartial news reporting? I remember growing up and feeling that I could believe anything the news people reported, because there was this integrity of impartial news reporting. Those days are gone.

If you were to flip, as I am right now, you would think the reporters watched 2 completely different speeches. You can’t argue the fact that Obama is a great public speaker, but why not simply highlight the points he made? No, of course not. Everyone needs to give their 2 cents as to what they took away from him.

But Keith Oberman? Really? Dude, you were on SportsCenter…please stop. Tell me what you think about Favre moving to the Jets, don’t interpret political language and positioning.

That was exhausting just to watch.

NBC’s Tim Russert Dead At Age 58

 From New York Times:

Tim Russert, the host of “Meet the Press,” and NBC’s Washington bureau chief, has died. He was 58.

Mr. Russert was a towering figure in American journalism and moderated several debates during the recent presidential primary season.

Tom Brokaw, the former anchor of NBC Nightly News, came on the air at 3:39 p.m. that Mr. Russert had collapsed and died early this afternoon while at work. He had just returned from Italy with his family.

Mr. Russert hailed from Buffalo and worked for two prominent New York Democrats, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Gov. Mario Cuomo, before being hired in 1984 by NBC in its Washington bureau. He became bureau chief four years later.

For those of you that pay attention to politics, you know that Russert was one of the few anchors on television that still deserved the title of “journalist,” not just “talking head.” He was one of the few that actually made watching the election news interesting. And now we’re not going to have him around for the most important election in our lifetime. His expertise and integrity will be greatly missed.

Make sure you pour out a good portion of your Friday night 40oz for this dead homie.
