If you needed any more proof that Barack Obama is cooler than you, the evidence has just arrived. From 1979 - 1981 President elect Barack Obama was a student at Occidental College, a small liberal arts school in Los Angeles.

While not very much is know about the two years he spend at Occidental, a series of photos shot in 1980 by an aspiring photographer named Lisa Jack have been released on Time.com in honor of Obama being named Time’s “Person of the Year.”

The series of 12 black-and-white photos (below) show the 19 year-old freshman posing in various positions, being “charismatic” as Jack describes. And no matter your political affiliation, you have to admit that Obama looks cooler than anyone you know.

Who Is The Big Brand On Campus?

Among college kids’ favorite brands: Facebook, Nike, iPod — and Time magazine. Those were among the findings of this year’s Anderson Analytics fall survey, which since 2005 has posed a series of open-ended questions to college kids about their favorite brands and activities. This year more than 1,000 students across the nation were asked to quickly list things such as a favorite magazine or good book they had read recently. [Ad Age]

college_classes_2Real Classes I Wish I Could Have Taken in College

Whether you think so or not, college was a pretty easy place in life. Think about it. The majority of people who attend college are going there on their parents’ bill. There’s virtually zero responsibility and we all know well over 50% of people wind up doing something career wise that has nothing to do with their majors. I’m sure the number is higher but I don’t feel like finding the link. In any event, here are some real college classes I wish I could have taken back in my school days. [Uncoached]

Iraq’s Olympic Hopes: When Sports Mean More

July 31, 2008 by COED Staff

The Olympic Games are just that, games–they can’t stop world hunger, find a cure for AIDS or put an end to war. But for a couple weeks they can make things seem a little brighter. This isn’t a new idea, it’s been reported on in the past and I’m sure it’ll be reported on in the future, but that doesn’t make it a tired topic.

Iraq has seen war, and little else, for the past six years. But come August 8, two Iraqi athletes may be just what the country needs to find a release from the hardships it faces.

Iraq is lucky to have any athletes competing in these summer games at all; in June the country’s national Olympic committee was suspended by the International Olympic Committee for what it called “political interference” by the Iraqi government. And with deadlines for the submission of athlete names for competition looming it seemed likely that no Iraqi athletes would be able to beat it. Read more

Summer’s here and that means it’s time to neglect that reading list and playing some goddamn video games. Unfortunately, your job painting houses at ‘College Kids F**k Your House Up,’ has neglected to return any income (”Dude, I totally have the cash but I keep forgetting”), so as usual, your broke.

No problem. Here’s five classic games that you should be able to find in the used/bargain bin section that’ll give you all the excuse you need to ignore other, less important things in your life. Read more

Escape! It’s A.D.D.ictive

block game

Escape! is easily one of the most A.D.D.icting games around.

You control the path of the red block; your objective is to avoid the blue blocks for as long as you can. I’d say this ranks right up there with the helicopter game.

It’s rumored that Asian fighter pilots can keep it going for more than 2 minutes - but if you can get past 45 seconds you are an Escape! wizard.

Breakup

Do you have doubts about your current relationship? Is it the jitters over commitment or is the relationship done? Here are some tips to help you make a decision to keep or dump your mate.

Complaining: “Do you complain about your lover to your friends? If you do more complaining than complimenting, this is a sign things are on the decline.”

User Example:
“Her friends never wanted to see me? I used to get along with them, but they started hating me because she would complain to them.”

The Passion is Gone: “Do you make love as often as you used to? In a relationship, there is a natural decline in sexual relations over time, but usually when the sex takes a significant dive, it can indicate there are deep problems in the relationship.”

User Example:
“Every time I approach her for sex, she always has an excuse. Usually she said she was too tired.” Read more

There are new statistics that say employees spend 1/5 of their work-day “cyberslacking.” I spent 3 hours busting my balls trying to bang out this article before the deadline. It took tons of “research” and “proofreading” but I finally finished it.
