Why The New Corporate Yankees Are Doing Everything Wrong

yankees-lead

Ever since George Steinbrenner faded away from atop the organization, the Yankees have thrown tradition out the window.

Gone is The House That Ruth Built.  Gone are the common blue collar fans.  And now?  Gone are the rights afforded to former all-time Yankee greats.

Don’t let the Yankees fool you by tuning into the YES Network and watching hour after hour of pinstripe pride, tradition, and a family feel among the city, its fans, and current and former greats. Wrong. Nowadays, season ticket holders have taken a back seat to corporate money with the absurdly inflated ticket prices.  The Stadium itself looks like every other new stadium in the league, and all of the best and most unique parts of the Real Yankee Stadium have been thrown in the garbage.  Thousands of empty seats are visible on every national telecast. 2009 Masters Badges Cheapest Ever!

masters-leadIf you ever dreamed of walking the 12th hole of the Augusta National Golf Course during the Masters Tournament but the price was certain to your ass ’til Tuesday, then today is that day.  Never before in the history of the 75 year-old tournament have badges been so cheap and easily obtainable to the general public .  Blame the ecomomy, blame AIG or blame Congress for calling out corporate executives on their frivolous spending habits and ridiculously excessive bonuses, but the fact of the matter is, demand is way down and the opportunity exists for fans to attend the last two days of the Granddaddy of All Golf Tournaments for as less than half of the price of years past.

One day badges  for Thursday and Friday, which typically run between $1000 to $2000 a day sold on the secondary market for $175 to $500. Prices for the weekend are expected to remain about the same, but buyer beware.  Brokers on the web are continuing to post ridiculous prices hoping to catch a few last-minute diehards still packing expendable incomes. I spoke with Andrew at the Austin Ticket Company today and he says prices in Augusta are a great bit lower than the prices you will see online.  So, if you are serious and want to go, pick up the phone and call your ticket broker or give Andrew a call in Augusta: 706.410.1431.

Will Led Zeppelin Headline Bonnaroo 2008?

led_zeppelin_bonnaroo

It has been rumored that Led Zeppelin will be headlining (alongside Metallica) at 2008’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival in Manchester, TN.

Led Zeppelin, arguably the greatest rock and roll band of all time, have not played together since the early 1990’s. They recently announced a one-off tribute show at O2 Arena in London for the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegün.

Over 20 million fans from all over the globe requested tickets to the December 10 show. As of today it will cost at least $2,000+ dollars to buy a ticket on the resale market.

Like The Police in 2007, Led Zeppelin’s decision to headline “the largest hippy festival in the world,” frequented by college students on summer break is a great way to introduce themselves to a new (read: younger) group of hardcore fans.

The four-day festival begins June 12, and the official Bonnaroo website says tickets will go on sale in March of 2008. Start saving now.
