Skins: Teenage Kicks of the Brits

For years us British viewers have been bombarded with US shows that supposedly depict the lives of teenagers and British telly had never been able to compete…until now.
Skins exploded onto British television and into the consciousness of young viewers in late 2006 and early 2007. The raw energy, humour, wit, and intelligence of the show was unbelievable and never seen before. Skins deals with issues such as drugs, sexuality, race and the difficulties of growing up. It’s British youth culture to the max.
The fast-paced energy of Skins mimics the flow of hormones that surge in the blood of real teenagers. The issues and storylines are entertaining yet easy to relate to or emphasize with. The characters are far from the typical one-dimensional entity, with the writers really getting into the minds of the individual they have created, rather than simply having them ‘exist’. The episodes focus on one character, specifically on the issues they are battling with along with how they manage themselves in the real world. Read more

In the past, Rachel Bilson declined offers to show off her bod in men’s magazines; we are lucky she had a change of heart. The February 2008 issue of GQ features Bilson in a sexy-yet-tasteful spread, not unlike chocolate fondue. (Chocolate fondue is a sexy and tasteful spread, no?)
Mischa Barton Busted for DUI and Drug Possession

In a move that can only be described as utter and complete desperation for attention, former O.C. cast member Mischa Barton was arrested for a DUI on Wednesday.
Seeing how a drunk driving arrest boosted the notoriety of America’s Sweethearts Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Kiefer Sutherland, and that chick that played Topanga on Boy Meets World, Barton was spotted downing a bottle of peach schnapps on her way out of the Beverly Hill’s Liquor Mart after she was turned down for the role of Jayna (half of the Wonder Twins) in the new Justice League movie.
Studio insiders say Barton’s shamefully obvious stunt showed just how out of touch the fast-fading starlet has become. “Perhaps when her show was canceled, celebrity DUI’s were the mark of distinction. But today, it takes at least an unwanted pregnancy or some kind of amputation to show true guts in Hollywood,” says one source. “Barton’s DUI just looks tacky at this point. She might as well tell everyone she’s going green.”
PR guru Micheal Wetler wished he could have given Barton some good career advice before she drove the proverbial nail through her talentless coffin. “Be creative, damnit! If you’re going to get in the news doing something stupid, at least try to wow people. Assassinate a former Pakistani Prime Minister or SOMETHING.”
