If you hadn’t noticed, we here at COED had a F’ing awesome time at 2009’s South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. But can you blame us? We got to hang out with Hannah Hilton and Meggan Mallone, saw a once-in-a-lifetime Jane’s Addiction show at the Playboy party, caught Kanye West’s secret show at The Levi’s Fader Fort and saw tons of beautiful music babes. But we’ve saved the best for last – our favorite, most rockin’ bands from this year’s music fest. Out of over 28,000 photos taken, we’ve narrowed it down to these selects. So, without further adieu, we give you the Best of SXSW Music 2009.

From hanging with porn stars to Jane’s Addiction rockin’ show at the Playboy party to Kanye West secret Levi’s Fader Fort show, 2009’s SXSW was a marathon of awesomeness. And though the festivities are over, it wouldn’t be COED-complete without highlighting one of our favorite features of the festival – the lovely ladies of SXSW! These indie chicks were the glimmer of light in a week of drunken insanity. So to honor their radness, we give you The Girls of SXSW 2009!

It’s no secret that Playboy and C3 know how to throw one helluva a SXSW shindig, but Thursday night’s Rock The Rabbit After Hours Party was the end-all-be-all.  I mean, hanging with eight Playmates in an abandoned grocery store with an endless supply of BBQ and swill may be a little less than commonplace, but seeing the original Jane’s Addiction lineup shred balls from the dairy isle was definitely a first.  Sure, I was a bit apprehensive that a grown-up Jane’s (minus the addiction) might be better suited as the opener on a Styx/Def Leppard parking lot double bill, but the boys brought it and brought it bigger than ever, busting out nine aggressively explosive pre-1990’s classics.  Thank you Jane’s for leaving the steel drum and the slow karaoke anthems back in 1997 where they belong.

With a ton of badass bands on the line-up and extra perks like a computer room for bloggers and complimentary adult beverages, there’s no question that the coolest spot at this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival is definitely the exclusive Levi’s/FADER Fort (1101 E. 5th Street between San Marcos & Waller). And tomorrow night, it’s going to get a lot better: We just received confirmation from a very in-the-know, anonymous source that Kanye West is confirmed to play the Fader Fort Saturday night at 8:45pm, putting to rest what has to be the biggest rumor of SXSW 2009.

Of course, some of you might not be satisfied with an anonymous source as “confirmation”. And believe us, we’d absolutely love to tell you how we have this information. But we’re not allowed. However, we can promise you that the Levi’s Fader Fort is where we’ll be Saturday night.

SXSW… 9 Days, 125,000+ attendees, 2000 bands and 2 ridiculously smokin’ hot Vivid Girls. Yes, SXSW is always on fire, but this year’s addition of Meggan Mallone and Hannah Hilton have put the local fire brigade on full alert.  COED caught up with these two sexy young lasses this afternoon, celebrating 25 years of VIVID, and as I think you will agree, music was definitely the last thing on our minds. On the eve of SXSW Music, Austin, Texas is a’buzz with the confirmation of a private Jane’s Addiction SXSW show on Thursday, March 19th.  While there is no mention of the time or venue, Jane’s Says there are a limited number of free fan tickets available.  From JanesAddiction.com:

Jane’s Addiction made arrangements for a number of their fans to be able to attend a special private show for free on Thursday, March 19 in Austin, Texas. Next week, music fans from across the country will converge on Austin, TX for the 2009 South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival. (Even COED will be there!) We know the 2009 SXSW online festival schedule has been out for a few days now, but we thought we’d point out that this year they’ve done it right.

Not only does this new Website allow you to easily plan all the different shows you’ll be rocking-out to next month, it lets you read about all of the bands from this year’s festival, as well as listen to and download tracks from most of the acts directly from their page. So instead of having to cram your way into Stubb’s to find out if a band sucks or not (or search for their Myspace page), just click the “play” button.

We hope to see you in Austin this year; the festival should be a good one. (We hear the Oak Ridge Boys are playing!)
