Apple released a brand new iPod on Tuesday and while the rest of the nation was captivated by all the pretty colors and the new gizmo’s shake-to-shuffle feature, I was a little busy geeking out about the other announcement: iTunes 8.
Unlike previous incarnations, iTunes 8 is shaking up the application for the first time in years, this time with the introduction of a better visualizer, a new way to peruse your library and a handy little feature called Genius. (more…)

Within the next month a major change may be coming to Apple’s digital music strategy with Steve Jobs reportedly about to unveil a subscription-based service connected to the iTunes store.
Although Jobs has blasted subscription-based music services in the past saying,”the subscription services are not succeeding… People want to own their music, not rent it.” But he seems to have flip-flopped, and the timing could be right on as iTunes currently dominates digital music sales and could convert users of other subscription-based music serivces like Rhapsody.com. Most people’s first encounter with the ultra hip, uber talented band, The Ting Tings can be attributed to Steve Jobs and his brilliant iPod commercials. Their song, Shut Up and Let Me Go, was catchy, fun and piqued everyone’s interest…in more than an MP3 player. Fortunately, that song wasn’t the only trick up The Ting Tings’ sleeve.Their newest album, We Started Nothing
, is further proof of this duo’s serious talent. Unable to get those songs out of our heads, COED just had to get the story behind the band. So, we did. The good news: Katie White is just as down to earth and cool as she is talented. And, though we didn’t get to chat with Jules, we are pretty sure the same goes for him.
COED: We Started Nothing is chock full of textured beats, irresistible melodies and witty lyrics- where do the songs come from?
The Ting Tings: We didn’t intend to form in a band so I think it came from a very honest place, because when we wrote these songs we didn’t think anyone would ever hear them. We just wrote them to play for our friends at parties. We were both feeling quite frustrated at the time and very sort of, I don’t know, like, invisible. We had been in a band that hadn’t worked out, we had a bit of a horrible time with it; I think it came from a real frustrated point of view, but they weren’t negative songs; they were just songs to make us feel better.
COED: Could you describe your song writing process?
TT: It’s completely different for every song. Both myself and Jules write everything together. Sometimes it will be that I will come up with something on the guitar and then we’ll come up with an idea on top of that. Or Jules might come up with something on the guitar or drums, or we’ll play keyboards or we’ll just have this little percussive sound. We just turn to sing like guy vocals and then an idea will come out of it. (more…)

I am embarrassed to admit this, but I spent a good portion of yesterday refreshing numerous technology blogs as Steve Jobs gave his keynote speech at the annual MacWorld.
Please don’t judge me.
It is just that since acquiring my iPhone, I have grown more and more obsessed with Apple products. They are so white. And shiny. And pretty. Oh, and I also wanted to see if Mr. Jobs had addressed my personal iPhone issue of searching through contacts on the phone…which he did not. So, if you happen to know Steve Jobs personally, please let him know that I am still waiting.
Anyways, besides the awesome news that iTunes will now be offering movie rentals – perfect to download to your iPod video/classic/touch/iPhone/laptop for long plane rides – the Mac Daddy introduced his brand new baby: The MacBook Air.
This thing is like the Nicole Richie of laptops. Super duper skinny. And oh so chic. (more…)

If cutting down the price of the new iPhone by $200 (after only two months on the market) wasn’t enough to put the tech collective in a frenzy, Apple has announced their new iPod – the iPod touch – along with updated models of the Nano and Classic.
The iPod touch sports a 3.5 inch widescreen display with a fully-functional interface not unlike the iPhone (Safari web browser, YouTube). But the biggest draw iPod touch has to offer is wireless downloading capabilities: purchase songs from Wi-Fi iTunes on the fly. (more…)

The latest news based on nothing but pure speculation comes from Capital, a German financial magazine.
For the German-impaired it goes something like this: upon hearing that Apple’s Jack-of-all-trades Steve Jobs and Volkswagen Chairman Martin Winterhorn had a tech rendevous in California earlier this week Capital pondered for a moment. After pondering for exactly one moment they thought, “Hey – what do cars and iPods have in common? Cars…iPods…carPods…podCars…wait! iCars!“
Whether this rumor has any truth behind it – or if the iCar’s steering wheel will be a click-wheel – has yet to be confirmed. (more…)
