Shaq’s Worst Nightmare: Lakers vs. Magic NBA Finals

shaqFor a man who is obsessed with having the last word, there is no possible worst-case scenario for Shaquille O’Neal than watching either Kobe Bryant or Stan Van Gundy hoist up the Larry O’Brien Trophy as the champion of the 2008-09 season.

For years, Shaq has claimed that the only reason Kobe won three titles was because he had The Diesel stationed in the paint.  It looked like his sentiments were true when Shaq was traded to Miami, and wasted no time by bringing the first-ever championship to South Beach with the help of Dwyane Wade.  Since O’Neal’s departure from LA, Kobe was found middling in mediocrity until Pau Gasol was hijacked from Memphis – and The Big Fella couldn’t have been happier. Who Does Stan Van Gundy Think He Is?

van gundyFor the second time this month, Stan Van Gundy is sticking his fat nose where it doesn’t belong.

The Ron Jeremy look-a-like has continued to inflate his status as a bully behind the mic by publicly calling out major NBA figureheads twice in the past four weeks.  First he ripped Shaquille O’Neal for flopping, and now he’s sinking his teeth into the Knicks for their supposedly poor handling of his current Orlando Magic assistant coach and former Knick legend, Patrick Ewing.

Ewing was honored by the Knicks this week with a Legends Award, given to only seven elite players from the past of their storied franchise.Rather than congratulating his assistant that deserves every ounce of credit for Dwight Howard’s ascension, the tubby Van Gundy instead called out the New York Knicks organization and its handling of Ewing, claiming, “The organization to me sort of pretends to appreciate him and like him.” (more…)
