When remembering the regrettable cultural cesspool that defined the 1980’s, two things typically come to mind: horribly bad synth-pop and Sylvester Stallone. Like a marriage made in 80’s Hell, the two combined created a unique genre of inspirational pussy-rock that bled all over American Pop Culture like a Rambo-induced, survival knife slash to the jugular. These songs that once made us hope, cheer and yes… even cry, now make us cringe with embarrassment that we know every lyric, line for line. (Stop your bitching… you know you love it.) (more…)
Today, the world watched as Michael Jackson was laid to rest. There were laughs and tears and a whole lot of singing. And just as we expected, the memorial climaxed with a rendition of “We Are the World”. So, in our own half-assed attempt to get in on the MJ funeral craziness, we present to you “We Are the World,” Japan style! Way better than the original…

It’s always a toss-up to say what the best part of an evening out is. Pregame and preparation are always fun, but last call is also a crucial part of a night out, especially when you’re going to school in the Midwest and the town closes down around 2 AM.
You can really get a sense of the type of establishment you’ve been frequenting by learning what it closes with each night. In New York, sometimes a sick sense of accomplishment coincides with every last call you actually make it to. 4 AM is much easier said than done when you’ve been trained to turn in after 2. Sometimes, though, regardless of the time, you’re going to get the same gratification.
What’s sad is that no one actually NEEDS that final drink at last call, but everyone panics all the same, as though they haven’t been drinking all night anyway. (more…)
Old fogies and teenage victims of classic rock epiphanies have reason to celebrate, as Led Zeppelin’s catalog will be on iTunes November 13 in the form of one, downloadable catalog. Priced at $99, Led Zep’s package includes every album the band released, 165 songs in total.
Led Zeppelin is, by all accounts, an essential band. You already know that and therefore have owned their entire discography – or at least their Greatest Hits album – since childhood. So why buy what you already own? Haven’t even the most casual listeners of rock memorized every lyric, every riff?
If you don’t own any album by Led Zeppelin by all means go purchase Led Zeppelin I and IV immediately, then round out your collection with II and III. Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti are somewhat patchy by comparison but still worth picking up.
There’s far too much music to be heard for fans of classic rock – especially fans of Led Zeppelin. While music tastes are completely objective, I’ve offered up my four recommendations if you’re a fan of heavy rock with a blues influence…all available for download on iTunes. (more…)
The blog-universe has been giving the seal of approval to Britneyâs leaked songs since early this week â have I been listening to the wrong ones?
These tracks are complete tripe. There is no way somebody with working eardrums can possibly give a âthumbs-upâ? to Britâs latest batch of bimbo-pop.
Even hipsters looking for their next bastion of irony will be thoroughly disappointed.
The three songs â âGimme More,â? âCold as Fire,â? âBaby Boyâ? â each have flat, lifeless production left over from the last millennium. This major mistake couldâve been easily remedied with the right collaborators (hint, hint).
Check out Britney Spears’ new tracks after the jump.
