AOL News reported that we (America) would not be able to survive a Battle: Los Angeles style attack from threats beyond our solar system, according to retired Army Colonel John Alexander. As a species I think we know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em, that’s what makes movies in which fellow humans overcome insurmountable odds so entertaining and rewarding. But, some movies really stretch our suspension of disbelief with their extremely lopsided David vs. Goliath battles that are, in reality, un-winnable. Which movies? Find out after the jump!

For those who watched the 83rd Annual Academy Awards Sunday night and were unimpressed, we’d like to take you back to the 61st and 62nd annual ceremonies thanks to the photography of Alan Light. Just about everybody enjoys taking a stroll down memory lane, and many times that jaunt can jog a fuzzy (and funny) sense of nostalgia. Back in ’89-’90, Natalie Portman was 7-8 years old, Kirk Douglas was 72-73 years old (I’ll let that sink in), Demi was still with Bruce, Tom Cruise wasn’t worshipping aliens, and River Phoenix was alive. The 61st edition was notable for not having a host while Rain Man swept most of the major categories. The 62nd ceremony saw Billy Crystal MC while Driving Miss Daisy picked up the most wins. Enjoy these rare red carpet and behind the scenes pics after the jump!

The Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah came to a close this past weekend. While most of the buzz went to documentaries like How to Die in Oregon, Page One: A Year Inside The New York Times, and Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey, we decided to do a countdown of feature length movies from the U.S. Dramatic Competition, NEXT competition, and those not in competition (plus one doc we just couldn’t pass up) that you should definitely see – whether it’s in the theater, on demand, or through Netflix. See our picks after the jump!

The Departed wannabe, The Town, ran this town (town being box office) this past weekend robbing the American public of $23 million. Ode to The Scarlet Letter, Easy A, whored its way to the #2 spot with $17 mil while M. Night Shyamalan’s Devil earned, 666,666,666. Jk, it got $12 mil. Alpha and Omega came in at #5, which probably won’t bode well for on… Click to read more

After the early success of The Expendables, it’s only natural that word of a sequel is already out. Everyone will have their speculations as to what actors should join the greatest action ensemble ever, including me. Although there are numerous unknowns who’ve cut their teeth in dozens of action flicks, The Expendables 2 deserves more household names and faces to share the explosions and fighting that gave every man with a pair a grin from ear to ear. Hopefully Arnold (if politically possible) and Bruce will get more screen time in the sequel, but the following actors should definitely be considered for major roles regardless.

Gone are the days when men would rule the “tough guy” roles in film. More and more women have made their way into the leading roles where strength and tenacity are key. These women have fought everything from zombies to psychotic murderers, all while bringing class and hotness to the screen. These are the truly badass women of Hollywood and it’s time they get some recognition.
