Last year, the New York Mets were overtaken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the final weeks of play as they suffered one of the worst September breakdowns in baseball history.  That agonizing finish set General Manager Omar Minaya in motion over the winter, making sure that he acquired an ace-quality arm to provide consistency and excellence down the strectch in a playoff race.  Now, his plan is beginning to look genius…but will it be enough? Which starting pitchers, currently in the majors or recently retired, are shoe-ins for induction into the baseball Hall of Fame?

It’s a debate myself and my friends had over a few beers last night that quickly got heated. Everyone has loyalty to their hometown teams. Being from Boston I lobbied hard for Curt Schilling while the Jersey crew was pushing for Andy Pettitte.

So to settle this thing once and for all, we decided to analyze the stats to give you a definitive list of starting pitchers who are of Hall of Fame caliber, listed from most deserving on top to least deserving.
