I’ve watched enough Entourage and Girls Next Door to know that the Playboy Mansion actually does throw down the killer parties that it should. Seeing this photo gallery only fortifies that. I don’t know that there’s ever been a longer, more anticipated buildup to a primetime TV show about waitresses in the history of the boob tube. No, we’re not talking about “2 Broke Girls”, we’re referencing NBC’s series about the beautiful Bunnies that worked at the first ever Playboy Club in Chicago in the early ’60s. Back in the spring, Amber Heard’s twitpic of her in the iconic Bunny costume made us want the girl who likes girls even more. So, with “The Playboy Club” premiering tonight (Monday, 9/19), we thought we’d profile the leading ladies donning cottontails to serve up drinks, cigars, drama, and sexy time.

Playboy Bunnies aren’t Playmates, they’re waitresses who work at the Playboy Club, of which there were dozens worldwide. Playmates and a very select few celebrities have donned the playboy bunny costume, which is custom made for each wearer. According to Hugh Hefner, the Bunny was inspired by Bunny’s Tavern, a bar and restaurant in Urbana, Illinois whose owner, Bernard “Bunny” Fitzsimmons, served Hef when he attended the University of Illinois. The outfit was the first service uniform registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It consists of satin bunny ears, cotton tails, collars with bow ties cuffs with cuff links, black mesh pantyhose and matching high-heeled shoes. 2010 was the 50th anniversary of the bunny costume and with Hef’s birthday now a memory, we take a look back at the female form and the outfit that shaped it over those five decades after the jump!

Today’s Miss COED, Marilyn Monroe, was Playboy’s first ever Playmate, though back in December 1953 when the first issue was published, it was known as the “Sweetheart of the Month“. The traditional definition of “playmate” is one who is “a companion at play”. Mr. Hefner‘s version of a companion at play is an attractive female model who is featured in a pictorial that includes nude photos, a centerfold poster, a short bio, and a “Playmate Data Sheet” displaying birthdate, measurements, turn-ons, and turn-offs. This comprehensive feature appears in the centerfold/gatefold of Playboy. But, what makes a Playmate “popular”? Is it her bust, her brains, or her bold personality? Find out after the jump!

February 3rd kicks off the beginning of the Chinese New Year, a holiday celebrated in places like Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, and Japan.
