If you missed the premier of HBO’s new series, ‘Eastbound and Down,’ then you missed one of the funniest shows on television. Danny McBride, star of recent comic hits, Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express and Superbad, plays washed-up MLB pitcher, Kenny Powers, who returns to his hometown and is forced to get a job as a substitute teacher. This results in some of the best overweight, permed-mullet laughs this side of the Mason-Dixon line. And luckily for you, we’ve found the entire first episode streaming online, here! But beware, the language is very NSFW and there’s some nudity at the end, so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Best of the Week: Pineapple Express
Have you ever watched a Cheech and Chong movie and secretly wished there was a bunch more car chases, gun fights and explosions? Apparently Seth Rogen has - and apparently he thought it was a really good idea, and so he decided to go ahead invent himself a little movie sub-sub-genre: the stoner action comedy. It just goes to show that not every idea you have while watching Cheech and Chong movies is a good one. Not to say that Pineapple Express is a horrible movie. It has its moments — mostly delivered by James Franco and Danny McBride — but those moments almost always occur during the ’stoner’ half of the film. The other half just feels like a terribly miscast, completely unremarkable action movie, with a few random “I’m sooo baked” jokes thrown in for continuity’s sake. Worth seeing? Sure. Good idea to make more stoner action comedies? Nope! (more…)

Over the last few years writer/director/producer Judd Apatow has had the Midas Touch in the film industry, responsible for hits including Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
His latest film, Pineapple Express, starring Seth Rogan and James Franco, hits theaters on Wednesday August 6th, is a surefire stoner classic.
Apatow and crew have been banging out successful movies at a rate of two per year. So how did he come up with the idea for Pineapple Express?
“I was watching “True Romance” back in the late 90’s on laserdisk, and I thought, Brad Pitt is so funny as this pothead character but there’s only one scene. I kind of wish there was a whole movie about that guy. And then I started thinking they never have stoner movies with great Jerry Bruckheimer level action–wouldn’t it be funny if you were chasing guys who were so high that it makes it hard for them to get away? So we spent a few months, had a meeting every once in a while, kickin’ around that like and then before you knew it, we have “Pineapple Express.”
