Brett Favre’s NFL Obituary

brett favre obituary

As a lifelong Brett Favre fan March 4th, 2008 will go down as one of the saddest days of my life. Yesterday, one of the greatest decided it was time to hang it up and it truly marks the end of an era.

Favre was one of the last gun-slinging, non pre-Madonna quarterbacks (err read: JaMarcus Russell). He played the game with passion, youthful attitude, toughness and a will to win few, if any, have ever had. Unlike Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, Favre never had a great offensive line, or marquee wide receivers, but he always figured out a way to make it work. He was an “Iron Man” in every sense of the word starting and playing every game to win.

It’s funny because as I flip through the TV channels people are talking about his retirement like a death rather than him just giving up the game of football. (more…)

The Sports Illustrated 2007 “Sportsman of the Year Award” Goes to…Brett Favre!

brett favreBrett Favre is as American as Apple Pie. That’s why hearing he won the 2007’s Sportsman of the Year Award brings a tear of joy to my eye.

For years Favre has been the epitome of an American hero. A hard-working southern boy who hasn’t missed a day of work since the mid-90’s – and at age 38, in the twilight of his career, is “having one of the finest seasons of his stellar career.”

Not only does Favre bring class to the field, but he brings it off the field as well.

While his QB peers Peyton Manning and Tom Brady commercially pimp themselves to the highest bidder (and hook up with foreign supermodels who refuse to get paid in American currency in one case), Brett Favre keeps a low profile. He films low-budget commercials for local mom and pop businesses and is married to New York Times Best Selling author, Deanna Favre. (more…)

NFL Smashdown: Golden Boy vs Prodigal Son

Tom Brady Peyton Manning

Soon the golden boy of the NFL will take on the prodigal son of football. Tony Dungy, still in his victory lap from a season ago will once again square up against Bill Belichick, football genius turned cheat turned genius once again. And oh yeah, the Colts and Patriots are playing each other.

In what has become the NFL’s equivalent to Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, the battle between Indianapolis and New England both begins and ends with just one aspect of each team: the quarterback.

Peyton Manning, once heralded as the next Dan Marino (the greatest quarterback without a ring) faces Tom Brady (baby-daddy extraordinaire), and both are clearly the pinnacle draws at the most glamorous of positions.

The question now stands in 2007: who’s better? (more…)
