MTV Launches New Music Site, Censors Music

MTV has hit the nail on the head with their new music video website launched earlier this week.

Think of MTVmusic.com as Hulu for music videos – currently offering thousands of embeddable music videos ranging from Gun’s and Roses’ classics to the newest Rihanna releases, MTV plans on offering the most complete music video archive on the interweb.

The only thing stopping MTVmusic from overtaking YouTube as the go-to music video sharing service is MTV’s inability to play nice on the playground. A perfect example can be found in Weird Al Yankovic’s “Don’t Download This Song.”  As pointed out by CrunchGear, MTVmusic bleeped out the names of file sharing sites to deter people from using non-MTV affiliated music services to download music. Renaissance Man: COED Interviews Pete Wentz

Pete Wentz’s band, Fall Out Boy, for which he is the principal lyricist and bass player, has sold upwards of 5 million albums worldwide. Decadence Records, Wentz’s label, has signed bands like Gym Class Heroes, Panic at the Disco and The Academy Is…, who’ve all turned into massive successes. Clandestine Industries, Wentz’s clothing line and book publishing company, recently opened the flagship location in Wentz’s hometown of Chicago. He’s been busy in his personal life too, marrying his muse, Ashlee Simpson last month. And the two are expecting their first child later this year.

You’d think as a successful musician, entrepreneur and family man, Wentz would want to settle down a little, and soak it all in. Wrong! He’s just gearing-up for his biggest project yet: redefining the way we experience music videos on TV and the Web, as host of MTV’s new show, “FN MTV.”

So we got Wentz on the phone to talk to him about life, music and the next big thing in music video history!

2007 VMAs: A Recap

2007 VMAs - Britney SpearsLast night the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards proved that a large chunk of the entertainment world is ruled by talentless hacks.

From technical difficulties (did anybody sound-check anything beforehand?) to only showing snippets of live performances by music’s heavy-hitters at various locations around Las Vegas – Kanye, five-times snubbed out of awards last night, is reportedly through with the VMAs after his performance was butchered by execs – MTV has fully transformed into a Metric Ton of Visuals.

The highlights lowlights:

Britney’s show-opening, pace-making, stupefying, phoned-in performance of her single “Gimme More.” Even Spears’ super-fans were stunned by her carelessness. As for the “magic” of Criss Angel assisting Brit? Smoke and mirrors, I guess – just like Brit herself.

Sarah Silverman’s harsh put-downs of Brit left the room in a deep silence. F***ing everybody looked away when the camera panned to them after any of Silverman’s barbs towards Brit. Just one more example of celebs having all the money and power in the world and doing nothing short of saving face. Despicable.

Check out the video link (and more pics) of Brit’s performance after the jump.
