Is Facebook Helping to Squash the Revolution in Iran?

iran-green-revolution-facebook-lead

With the increasingly bloody battle for Iran’s future raging on in Tehran, social networking Sites, like Facebook and Twitter, remain the primary source of news out of the country, whose government has effectively banned all established press from reporting.

Wisely, Twitter has done whatever it can to help maintain its service for the Iranian people, ensuring Twitter’s relevance in this new era of information sharing, if not in the history books. Facebook, on the other hand, has taken a different approach.

Meet Saeed Valadbaygi, author of the Website, Revolutionary Road and one of the primary ‘citizen journalists’ for the revolution currently going on in Iran. His extensive reports have been referenced and quoted repeatedly in the mainstream media, from Andrew Sullivan’s The Daily Dish to MSNBC.

In addition to posting on his Site, Saeed uses both Twitter and Facebook to report everything from first hand experiences to videos from the frontlines in Iran, online, for the world to see.

But within the last few days, Facebook has twice threatened to cancel Saeed’s account, citing as the reason vague violations of their Terms of Service. After receiving the warnings, Saeed posted them to his Facebook page, without comment. Facebook then deleted the posts from his Site.

In response, a Facebook group, “in defence of Saeed’s activities on Facbook” [sic] is attempting to keep Facebook from canceling Saeed’s account. The group currently has more than 1,350 followers and is growing by the day. (more…)

5 Things Rachel Maddow Should Consider to Conceal Her Adam’s Apple

Don’t get us wrong – we really like Rachel Maddow. Her analysis is tempered and even-handed. All in all, she’s a refreshing voice in a grimy mud puddle of political blather. But she has got to do something about her freakin’ wardrobe.

For some poor reason, they’ve decided to box her in a long-necked, wide coat that makes her appear she completely naked under her blazer – and not in a good way. On top of that, it looks as though she has a giant f**king Adam’s apple. We can’t help you with the blazer, but we’ve come up with a few ways she can divert attention from that nugget in her throat. Obama Speech: Any Fair and Balanced Left in the News?

If so, I can’t find it.

So Obama is done giving his speech, and I am flipping between MSNBC with Chris Matthews/Keith Oberman and FOX.

If Matthews and Oberman were any more up Obama’s ass – they would have been covered in sh*t. FOX on the otherhand, might has well have been burning pictures of Obama and were tearing apart every vocal inflection he made.

What ever happened to impartial news reporting? I remember growing up and feeling that I could believe anything the news people reported, because there was this integrity of impartial news reporting. Those days are gone.

If you were to flip, as I am right now, you would think the reporters watched 2 completely different speeches. You can’t argue the fact that Obama is a great public speaker, but why not simply highlight the points he made? No, of course not. Everyone needs to give their 2 cents as to what they took away from him.

But Keith Oberman? Really? Dude, you were on SportsCenter…please stop. Tell me what you think about Favre moving to the Jets, don’t interpret political language and positioning.

That was exhausting just to watch.

David Elms: The Most Powerful Man In Prostitution

17erotic600.jpg

In the world of online prostitution, if you’re a hooker not on TheEroticReview.com, you might as well go f**k yourself. The Site, which has 500,000 to 1 million unique visitors a month, allows johns to rate their experiences with particular prostitutes from 1 to 10, write reviews for individual prostitutes and brothels, and find exactly the girl they’d like to, um, hire…As the industry moves from the street corner to the PC for generating business, The Erotic Review’s power to make or break a working girl has become absolute.

But with the Site’s owner, David Elms, on trial for being caught in a hotel room with a pile of coke, a loaded handgun and a prostitute, the future of The Erotic Review is on the line, along with the entire sex industry. “In dozens of conversations and in postings on the Internet in recent weeks, prostitutes have expressed concern that if The Erotic Review goes offline it could hurt business,” reports The New York Times. But that doesn’t mean they want Elms to keep his power. (more…)

Pay Attention when you are Stuffing Your Face!

fat

Watching television and cramming for tests are the two times when I know that I have the tendency to mindlessly consume food. But now, I will be paying closer attention to just how much I am eating due to a recent article published on msnbc.

The article discusses a study where a free chicken wing buffet was offered to 52 graduate students while they watched the Super Bowl at a sports bar. Hey now – who could pass up free chicken wings?

As part of the study, the waitresses were told to clear the dishes at only half of the tables. If people had their tables continually cleared, they continually ate. Each of these people ate an average of seven chicken wings apiece. The students who did not have their table bused ate less and had eaten an average of two fewer chicken wings per person, which is 28 percent less than those whose tables had been bused. (more…)

A Business Lesson for Communication Majors from Jim Cramer

Jim CramerBusiness majors shouldn’t be the only people having fun with money!

Although communication majors go to school to do “dumb artsy” things we shouldn’t be afraid to get informed and jump into the investing arena.

Jim Cramer from MSNBC’s Mad Money will share with us a few investing tips so when we enter the “real world” we too can be rolling in the green.

Here’s how to start making Mad Money:

Should we be optimistic about money?
I’m advocating that stocks are great – I mean multi-year great. I see many years of tremendous opportunities to make money outside of your paycheck… I want to emphasize that people should be investing furiously from when they are 15 to when they are 65. (more…)
