Just a short time ago, 64 teams entered into the March Madness tournament filled with hopes of NCAA basketball glory. But after a lot of sweat, tears and bracket-killing upsets, we’re down to the lucky bastards of the Sweet 16. And we could think of no better way to celebrate this than, you guessed it, cheerleaders! (What else?) Regardless of whether you’re team made the cut, Cheerleaders of the Sweet 16 will get you back in the game.

Branson, Missouri is coined “The Live Music Show Capital of the World.” This is where Russian funnyman, Yakov Smirnoff has the Yakov Smirnoff Theater. It’s also one of the worst places I’ve ever been to—hands down. Hint: To make Branson really creepy, travel there during the winter months when most of the shows are shut down.
Here’re a few reasons why Branson Missouri is such a sh!thole: (more…)

Students at a suburban St. Louis high school headed to the gymnasium for HIV testing this week after an infected person told health officials as many as 50 teenagers might have been exposed to the virus that causes AIDS.
Officials refused to give details on who the person was or how the students at Normandy High School might have been exposed, but the district is consulting with national AIDS organizations as it tries to minimize the fallout and prevent the infection from spreading. So to help do that, the school district is saying nothing…to anyone…even those who now might have HIV.
“There’s potential for stigma for all students regardless of whether they’re positive or negative,” Normandy School District spokesman Doug Hochstedler said Thursday. “The board wants to be sure all children are fully educated.” A teacher in a neighboring district singled out a girl who dates someone at Normandy High and instructed her to get tested, Hochstedler said. A competing school’s football team initially balked at playing Normandy’s 8-0 team, and not to be a douche, but why shouldn’t they?

Finally, football season is in full swing and we’re freakin’ psyched! Last week’s opening games went pretty much as we predicted and we’re more than ready for this week. A lot of in, outs, what-have-you’s, and really, anyone could end up on top. Ok, not really anyone, but we don’t want to spoil your fun this early in the season. So here’s this week’s games of the top 10 presented by cheerleaders, as God intended.

As of Friday afternoon, everyone is at 0-0 (almost, sorry Baylor, you got hammered). With the openning day kick-off less than 24 hours away, let us put Obama/McCain on hold and turn our attention to young men being given free educations in exchange for engaging in the controlled violence that we in the U.S. call NCAA College Football.

Harvard Students Arrested In Gay Rights Protest
Four members of Harvard’s “Right to Serve” tour were arrested this morning at a military recruiting station in Portland, Maine on the charge of criminal trespassing.
The arrested members were Samantha G.M. Barnard ’09, Robert J. Ross ’09, Amary K. Wiggin ’09, and Jacob P. Reitan, a Harvard Divinity School student who first conceived of the tour.
Twenty Harvard students have been traveling since Saturday on a week-long trip up and down the east coast to protest the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy barring openly homosexual or bisexual recruits from enlisting in the armed services. [Harvard Crimson]

Miami Lands #1 Seed For NCAA Baseball Championship
After hearing the good news that they would be hosting the Coral Gables Regional as the No. 1 national seed of 64 teams for the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, Miami players and coaches watching the selection show in the clubhouse were thrown an unexpected curveball.
No. 2 seed Missouri (38-19), No. 3 Mississippi (37-24) and No. 4 Bethune-Cookman (36-20) are set to come to town this weekend in a surprise bracket that left some wondering how the top seed didn’t get matched up with the likes of Mt. St. Mary’s (21-32) or Texas Southern (16-32) in its regional instead of lower No. 1 seeds such as North Carolina or LSU.
Miami will take on Bethune-Cookman in the second game Friday at 4 p.m., following the match-up between Missouri and Mississippi. All games will air on ESPNU, with games at both 12 and 4 p.m. through Sunday, and the final game on Monday if necessary. [The Miami Hurricane]
