Braylon On Brink Of Big Apple

braylon-edwardsAccording to reports at Yahoo! Sports, the Cleveland Browns are moving toward an agreement that will send wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Giants in exchange for wide receiver Dominik Hixon along with a 2nd and 5th round pick in this month’s NFL Draft.

This move makes sense for both teams as the Browns are looking to move in a new direction under new head coach Eric Mangini, while the Giants are looking to return to Super Bowl form after jettisoning their troubled star receiver Plaxico Burress.

Edwards would immediately fill the number-one receiver slot for the G-Men, and fit perfectly in a leadership role to help fellow former Michigan Wolverine star wideout Mario Manningham improve on his limited rookie season.  Edward’s big body and ability to dominate a game will be music to the ears of quarterback Eli Manning, who thrived with a larger Burress as his primary option.

To continue along the Michigan Connection trail both Edwards and Manningham could team up to help fill the void left by Burress and the recently released former Wolverine and all time Giants receiving leader, Amani Toomer.

Boston College Threatens Coach for Jets Interview

Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski has been told he will be fired if he interviews for the head-coaching vacancy with the New York Jets, according to sources.

The interview is scheduled for Monday evening. Despite the threat from athletic director Gene DeFilippo, Jagodzinski plans to do the interview with the Jets, the sources said.

If Jagodzinski is fired, the school will consider three in-house candidates to replace him as head coach — offensive coordinator Steve Logan, defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani and offensive line/assistant head coach Jack Bicknell — a source told ESPN.com’s Pat Forde. [ESPN]

The One Buckeye Who Hates Pryor

If there’s one Ohio State student out there that hates Terrelle Pryor, it’s definitely Todd Boeckman.  Boeckman was the starting quarterback that led the Buckeyes back to the BCS National Championship Game last season and planned on returning to Columbus with his sights set on a return trip to the title game and more importantly, a first round selection in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Many believed the talented Boeckman could provide Ohio State with another stellar year behind center, and that his Draft stock would rise and force teams on the professional level to give him a serious look early on.

As a junior, he took over for Troy Smith and didn’t skip a beat.  He threw for nearly 2400 yards and 25 touchdowns while leading the young Bucks to a Big Ten title, an 11-1 regular season record, and a return trip to the title game.  He probably could have been drafted in the mid to later rounds, but decided to pass on leaving early after his first year as a starter knowing that most of his team would be back, and that they’d have a very reasonable shot at putting up big numbers and capturing the title that would propel him into the early rounds of the 2009 NFL Draft. Despite Poor Economy, Coaches Still Making Bank

Despite Poor Economy, Coaches Still Making Bank

Gas is $4 a gallon—and rising. The economy is struggling. Some believe the worst is yet to come.

But you can’t tell it by college football coaches’ salaries. They’re breaking the bank.

In 1995, Bobby Bowden became the first $1 million coach in college football. Now, the average salary for head coaches at major college football programs exceeds $1 million a year. [Tennessean]

Al Gore (Finally) Endorses Barack Obama

Al Gore

In an email sent out this afternoon, former Vice President, Oscar-winner and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Al Gore endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States. His endorsement comes long after most would consider relevant, since the choice is now down to only Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain, a Republican.

The email comes a few hours before the former VP and the Democratic Presidential hopeful take the stage together at 8:30pm [EST] in Detroit, Michigan. The rally will be broadcast live via streaming video, available at BarackObama.com.

This is definitnely a key endorsement (imagine if it went to McCain…), but it’s not like most didn’t see it coming. [BarackObama.com]

Dr. Jack Kevorkian Running For Congress

Jack Kevorkian

This is too good to be true.

From The AP:

Assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian plans to run for Congress, complicating a Michigan race that is expected to be among the most competitive in the nation.

The so-called “Dr. Death,” who was released from prison last year and remains on parole, will run as a candidate with no party affiliation for a congressional seat representing Detroit’s suburbs, an associate said.

“Jack is in great spirits, and he intends to do this. He just hopes for some honesty in government,” said Ruth Holmes, Kevorkian’s longtime jury consultant.

YES. The first thing that pops into my mind when I think of Dr. Kevorkian (besides MURDER) is his honesty. If elected, let’s just hope he doesn’t run out of patience…BLAM!
