Really, can anything go wrong with a celebrity endorsement? OK, other than their latest movie/album/TV show turning into a flop. Or them getting caught on camera beating a hooker while wearing your clothing line.
OK, so a lot can go wrong. But maybe nothing is worse than when the celebrity’s troubles have a cruel, ironic connection to the product they’re endorsing, turning your multimillion dollar ad campaign into an exercise in unintentional hilarity.

Boys Like Girls used their explosion on the PureVolume“unsigned band” chart to land a major label record deal that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of records sold of their critically acclaimed self-titled album. Just two years ago, Boys Like Girls were playing small venues in the Boston area. Today, they are gearing up to co-headline a five week national arena tour with Good Charlotte. On the verge of super-stardom, this quartet hasn’t forgotten their roots and the fans that helped them get to where they are today.

The key to success? Be a nice guy. Seriously.
Obviously, be competent, smart and forward-thinking. But according to Tim Sanders, author of The Likeability Factor, your career success depends on having personal well-being and playing well with others.
‘The grim reality is that life is a popularity contest,’ says Sanders, a Loyola-Maramont graduate and former indie-rock musician. ‘There was a Harvard Business Review study about how people select who they want to work with. And you know what? Everyone would rather work for a likable fool than a competent jerk.’
Sanders is part of a new breed of managers who are looking for ‘emotional talent.’ rather than just physical and mental skills. Being a nice guy, he shared with us some tips to finding emotional satisfaction in our career, from finding a perfect job to loving the one you get. (more…)

A few weeks back we honored the sad, lonely lives of water boys and sparring partners; this week we give props to the most exciting (and highest paying) jobs for non-athletes in sports. Some of these professions require skill, finesse and a past-career in the sport while others…well, you’ll see.
Honorable mention: the beer guy. Yeah, it’s amazing to offer up beer to rabid sports fans, but you don’t get to drink any brews on the job. Well, at least legally.
