First, let’s define “relevant”. It’s “Closely connected or appropriate to the matter at hand”. In terms of stand up comedy, that means having a connection with your audience. You’re up there on stage, making observations, and the audience whether they sympathize, empathize, or just process what you’re saying and they respond in a favorable way (read: they f***ing laugh and clap). Comedians like Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy and Jerry Seinfeld became huge celebrities because audiences could relate to them in some way. But those guys aren’t “relevant” today. So, who is? Let us break it down for you with today’s most relevant comedians in our list after the jump.

The 7/7 episode of Louie on FX begins with him moving a desk that has sentimental value to his daughter who grills him about it. Then, out of nowhere, she pulls off this cheerleader / gymnast manuever where she pulls her leg 180 degrees from its normal standing position. Like… easily. Not a wince or anything. And she holds it. And I’m gonna say right here and now that wasn’t in the script. Because Louie looks at her for a solid 5 seconds then gives this bewildered expression. Anyway, after seeing it, I thought I’d pull bunches of other awkward family photos. Check ‘em out in the gallery after the jump.

Season 1 of Louis CK‘s hit FX show “Louie” released on DVD and Blu-ray this past Tuesday (June 21st). The much-anticipated second season premieres tonight (Thursday, June 23rd). Louis’ a veteran comic who’s been around the block – many say he’s the reason Dane Cook is rich and famous. Yet, he’s not a well-known face or name outside the stand-up comedy circuit. Shocking when you consider all of his accomplishments. S,o to celebrate the Season 2 premiere and S1 on DVD – and to give credit where credit is due – we compiled a list of little known facts about the red-headed menace. Check ‘em out after the jump.
