Seth Rogen fatigue is setting in, so we left The Green Hornet off the list. Ditto to the inevitable Nightmare on Elm Street remake, even though it landed Jackie Earle Haley to play Freddy Krueger. Remakes of Clash of the Titans and Death at a Funeral and the possible Ben Stiller/Tom Cruise comedy The Hardy Men might be good, but there were too many other interesting movies to pick from.

So what does that leave? Well, it’s an accepted fact that Hollywood has run out of ideas and is just coasting on remakes and sequels, so while putting together this list, we tried to come up with as many totally original movies as we could. In the end, we’ve got four sequels, three of which are based on books; four additional non-sequels based on books; three movies based on TV shows; and one based on a well-known legend.
That left only six original movies. Oh well. Despite that, we think we put together a damn good list. (more…)
As you may know, we at COED have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model. But now the wait has come to an end. After hearing that the model would be first announced on tonight’s “Late Show with David Letterman”, we sent one of our editors over to the Ed Sullivan Theater during the filming to get the inside scoop.
And it turns out our hopes were correct; the 2009 SI Swimsuit Issue cover model is… Bar Refaeli! The 23-year-old Israeli model first appeared in the magazine in 2007. She was also voted second most likely to be on the cover by COED readers, after Brooklyn Decker. So, close on that one, but no cigar.
Congratulations, Bar – we’ll be ogling over your pictures for months to come. (Not that we haven’t been already…)
UPDATE 2: Don’t forget: Bar Refaeli will be on the “Late Show with David Letterman” on Wednesday, Feb. 11th. Sports Illustrated’s 2009 Swimsuit Issue went on sale Tuesday, Feb. 10th, in all its glossy glory.
Geeks rejoice! Leonard DiCaprio is set to star in “Atari,” a biopic about entrepreneur Nolan Bushnell, the creator of Atari and one of the founding fathers of the video game industry.
Bushnell was an, “engineering student, puzzle-lover and game enthusiast went from fixing broken pinball machines to launching Atari Corp., a video game manufacturer, in the early ’70s,” says Reuters.
Atari’s first release, Pong, essentially started the video game industry. And was the leading video game producer in the first generations of gaming.
Don’t get us wrong, Leo is a badass actor, but is he the right choice for the ultimate gamer?
Leonardo DiCaprio the best choice for “Atari” biopic?
After his acclaimed performance in blockbuster Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. has been scouted by Hugh Hefner to play the magazine mogul in an upcoming Playboy-creator biopic. According to PerezHilton.com, after seeing Iron Man, Hefner has put Downey to the top of the list of actors to portray him in the film.
After Iron Man’s huge and unexpected success, RDJ is one of the hottest properties in town!
It’s not a 100 percent done deal, but sources say Hefner has signed off on Downey to play him in the movie, which has the working title Playboy.
Hef reportedly took a liking to Downey after seeing Iron Man and “admiring his humor and skill in showing his vulnerability.”
Other rumored leading men include Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio, and the film will be directed by Brett Ratner. And Ron Howard will serve as producer for the Universal Studios film.
With an authentic playboy with a debauchery-filled past in the leading spot, this promises to be F’ing rad.
In 2004, ESPN said that Derek Jeter was the “biggest playboy in all of sports.” The 33 year-old New York Yankee short stop has given us another reason to believe the hype as he’s begun shacking up with Friday Night Lights super-hottie and Emerging Hottie of 2008, Minka Kelly.
But Kelly is only another girl in the long list of babes that Jeter has dated. In fact, Jeter has hooked up with seven girls on this years Maxim “Hot 100″ list–and those are only the ones we know about.
So what happens to these uber-hotties after Jeter runs their bases? Find out here…or just salivate to their smokin’ pics.

Teaming up with Warner Bros., DiCaprio is producing a live-action version of Akira, one of the most beloved Anime films. The original Akira, which was based on a manga series of the same name, dealt with teenage biker gangs in “New Tokyo,” set in the year 2019.
There is far more to say about this masterwork, but what’s important is that the live action Akira has an all-new storyline, based in “New Manhattan” – and it may be separated into two parts, or two stand-alone movies, as IGN reports. Color me intrigued… (more…)
Yeah, yeah, we know – it’s 2008. So why talk about the movies of 2009 so soon?
With the advent of viral marketing and extremely early teaser trailers being leaked eons before a movie is scheduled for release, you can never be too early to start talking about films. Hell, you’re lucky this list isn’t about the most anticipated movies of 2010, which could’ve been done just as easy – and it still would’ve been way behind the internet’s buzz schedule.
Some of these movies will be sure fire hits, while others are doomed to flop. Either way, we offer you the chance to share your opinion in the comment section.
Vote at the bottom for what you feel will be the best of 2009. (more…)
