There have been reports Mark Wahlberg has stated he wants to turn “The Fighter” into a trilogy. Is this the next Rocky franchise? Most likely not, since this one’s based on actual events, but one wonders if Mickey Ward’s story warrants three feature length films? Prior to The Fighter’s release, his name rang few bells, but judging by its critical and box office success, one has to take a look around at other sports figures to see who’s ripe for the Hollywood treatment. If there were anyone with a more tense relationship with his coach and the fan base as Vince Young I would be surprised. Sure, Donovan McNabb’s tumultuous tenure in Philly was bad, but he and Andy Reid were close. Vince, on the other hand, just can’t seem to handle the pressures involved with playing at the NFL level. While McNabb’s at least lead a couple teams to championship games and a Super Bowl, Vince only has 1 Pro Bowl year under his belt and has zero playoff experience. After another wild weekend in the NFL, the final seeds are set for this year’s playoffs. Twelve teams will enter the postseason with Super Bowl aspirations, all of which believe they have a realistic shot at making the Big Game. As most teams gear up for this “new” season, they believe all bets are off. Regular season records no longer matter. It’s what you do in this next 3-4 games that counts.
