Don’t look now, but the New York Knicks are winners of eight of their past 11 games, including five straight at home. They have surged up the standings to a 21-25 record, one-half game out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, and are already only two wins behind last season’s disgraceful total. But is their recent success a mirage?
If ever there was a test to determine whether Mike D’Antoni’s crew is legit, this week is it. (more…)

When Donnie Walsh took over as President of the New York Knicks, he vowed that there would be better days ahead for one of the NBA’s flagship franchises. The first step was banishing Isiah Thomas from the team. The next was bringing in Coach Mike D’Antoni.
But on Friday, he may have made his most aggressive step toward delivering on his promise to build a brighter tomorrow for New York. (more…)

If ever there was a match made in heaven, it is Sean Williams and the New York Knicks.
Sean Williams is a second year power forward/center for the New Jersey Nets and is mired on the bench in frustration and anger. Newsday reported that the giant piece of oak anchoring Williams’ nameplate was ripped clean off of his locker and found leaning against the wall after Wednesday’s game. Seems like the dynamic shot blocker from Boston College has had enough of being banished to the bench, having only played 24 minutes in the team’s first seven games this season.
Here is where the Knicks come into play. The Knicks have been one of the worst shot blocking teams in the league over the past couple of seasons. They desperately need a player who can bring interior presence and shot-blocking off of help defense. Many scouts that watched Williams perform during pre-Draft workouts in Houston last summer believe that he has the tools to become the next Amare Stoudemire. So why not match the next potential Amare with Amare’s most influential coach? (more…)

Talks have stalled between the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies over a potential deal that will send Zach Randolph to the Grizzlies for Darko Milicic and Marko Jaric, because it is believed that Memphis is seeking a first-round pick as part of the deal. But how can Memphis justify that request? Are they hammered?
While Randolph isn’t known for his defensive prowess, he is an extremely effective scorer and rebounder with toughness in the post. He is a proven 20-10 guy in the Western Conference and will immediately team with O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay to form a dynamic inside-outside game that Hakim Warrick obviously is never going to deliver. In a very quiet move outside of New York, the Knicks acquired Patrick Ewing Jr. from the Houston Rockets in exchange for the draft rights for Frederic Weis. This trade is hilarious/awesome/strange on so many levels.
Knicks fans may finally be able to rejoice and get closure on the infamous 1999 Draft seletion of Weis over local hero and St. John’s baller, Ron Artest. Obviously, Weis – yes, the man Vince Carter dunked on by literally jumping over his entire body – isn’t going to come over from France anytime soon to play for the Rockets – but how hysterical is it now that both Artest and Weis are on the same roster – in Houston, of all places.
