As the late, great lead singer of Sublime Bradley Nowell once sang “Summer time and the living’s easy.” What makes the living easy (besides the weather, beaches, pools, barbecues, girls, and baseball)? How about the crazy good concerts and music festivals? There is nothing better than going to see a show on a nice summer day or night with a fun group of friends. Although in past years ticket prices have been rather outrageous, many artists are making changes to accommodate their fans in today’s tough economic times. I have put together a little guide to let you know about some great shows worth catching this summer. Check it out after the jump!

Last week, we had a three way tie for your favorite Song Of The Week (“SOTW”) – Jay Z’s “Dream”, Fitz and the Tantrums “MoneyGrabber”, and Two Door Cinema Club’s “What You Know”. Another week has gone by, as we are slowly but surely closing out the first month of 2011. Hopefully you don’t have to deal with the snowpacalypse that is destroying the northern east coast. I’ve never seen so much snow! But, what are you going to do? I can’t control mother nature, but I can control what goes into my head phones, thus allowing me to bless you with another edition of Al Jones’ Songs of the Week. Read more after the jump!

It doesn’t seem that far away, and musically, not much has changed over the past year. Lady Gaga’s still scoring hits, and La Roux’s “Bulletproof” is an armored tank climbing up the Top 40 charts. From the synths and strong drum beats on every pop track over the past year, could pop and electronic have merged? Sounds like it – until you check out Deadmau5 and Boys Noize. Check out this class’s suggested playlist after the jump.

The all-family band from Tennessee ruled New York City last night with a sold out gig at Madison Square Garden. We were able to attend the show with the Notion we could Use Somebody for a little Sex On Fire and we weren’t disappointed. KOL brings out the prettiest of princesses and most exquisite of queens to their shows as evidenced by this photo gallery. Definitely made up for the outrageously high priced beers sold at the venue. Luckily ,$12 pitchers at Blarney Stone and a disposable flask of rum in a girlfriend’s boot saved us from filing bankruptcy. These pics are money!

Cold War Kids probably could have gotten famous on their catchy and clever name alone. Luckily for us all, there has always been a bit more substance to this band than just their name. The indie/blues/soul/rock band from California started in 2004 .
Touring with bands like Muse and The White Stripes has, of course, helped them along the way, but they’ve… Click to read more
