The first known recorded use of the term “WAG” was in a 2002 story by British publication The Telegraph in which the reporter relayed a term thrown around by the Jumeirah Beach Club staff in reference to footballer’s wives and girlfriends. Once 2006 and the World Cup rolled around, the term became en vogue replacing the once popular, “Trophy Wife”. There’s long been an argument over which sport has the hottest WAGs. Many would agree soccer – the original football – does, while others believe American football attracts the highest caliber jersey chaser.
