With Nick Swardson’s new show Pretend Time debuting this week (Happy birthday, Nick – he turned 34 last week) along with the release of “I Am Comic” on DVD, we thought we’d take a look at the best “bits” that caught on with the American public. Too often in the entertainment industry, great talents are taken from this world before they have a chance for their careers to fully flourish. Unfortunately for others, the exact opposite happens – their careers got so big, they didn’t know when to quit. Not that they weren’t great in their day, but somewhere along the way, things took a turn for the worst. Whether you are on the right or the left, you can’t argue with George Carlin’s humor. (Ok, if you are on the right, you probably have a harder time finding the humor.) But regardless of where you stand, George Carlin’s incredibly successful comedy career spanned 50 yrs. He was the first host of SNL, he guest hosted for Carson, he was present at Lenny Bruce’s arrest for obscenity, and went to jail for refusing to show his ID…

Groundbreaking comedian George Carlin died Sunday evening of heart failure. He was 71.

Jeff Abraham says Carlin went into St. John’s Health Center on Sunday afternoon, complaining of chest pain. Carlin died at 5:55 p.m. PDT, the Associated Press reported.
