The iPod is losing its grip in Japan. Last week, for the first time in four years, the iPod was not the #1 selling music player in Japan. Instead it was Sony’s Walkman digital player. Sony’s music players increased to a 43 percent share, while Apple was at 42.1 percent share. Apple held its lead in Japan since January of 2005. Read more…

When it ain’t broke, you don’t fix it. And when you’ve got noise-canceling headphones that take their job seriously, why bother updating them? So you don’t – instead you drop another QuietComfort sibling onto the line and reduce even more noise across even more frequencies bothering your ears. And you call it “QC15.” (more…)

If you’re anything like me, by the time 3PM rolls around, you desperately need to either fall asleep or get a good pick-me-up snack. Which is why the insanely-named, Beanzawave USB-powered microwave currently being designed by Heinz is such an awesome idea.
The 7-inch tall contraption, which is made specifically for heating up individual packets of beans (yes, beans) fits easily next to your desk and will run you about $160. Why anyone would need a portable microwave made specifically for bean cooking, I have no clue – though I’m sure the reasons are British. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome. [via: Gizmodo]

Big Brother is about to encroach on your living room. The California Energy Commission is proposing stricter energy-use rules by banning retailers from selling wide-screen TV sets 40 inches or higher. The Commission wants to reduce the strain on the states energy grid and avoid building new power plants because the amount of energy a TV uses is proportional to screen size.
The Consumer Electronics Commission is opposed to this plan because it would eliminate approximately 80 percent of all wide-screen digital TV sets, which would bring about massive job losses and a loss of approximately $50 Million in sales tax revenue. The regulations, if unopposed, are expected to be approved this summer.
Am I the only one who thinks this is one of the stupidest ideas ever proposed? I happen to enjoy HDTV. I like watching “Heroes” and having every image of Hayden Panettiere in bright, close up quality. The last time I checked America is about choice, if you don’t like HDTV’s then don’t buy one. What right do you have to tell me how big a TV I should have? The answer: you don’t. (more…)

So I just got an iPhone yesterday and it’s already been an enormous time-waster/pain in the ass. I think I got the pain in the ass part figured out, but that will only add to the time-wasting…Anyway, I avoided being up-sold at the AT&T store and walked out case-free. But that doesn’t mean I don’t need to protect the dang thing. Fortunately, someone’s created possibly the greatest iPhone case on the planet – the bacon iPhone case. (more…)
