If you like emo music, I’m not going to pretend to understand why.  But I will tell you something:  today is your day.  On this day, two bands released albums.  These two bands happen to be going on tour together, too.  They’re band friends and it’s really cute.  Fall Out Boy released their “Folie a Deux” today.  It sounds very Fall Out Boyish, but….there is something different about it.  I can hardly put my finger on what it is that is different…but it does seem as though the boys are falling into the shoes of men.  Or…they’re trying to.

The other said band, All American Rejects, released their “When The World Comes Down” today.  It sounds pretty much exactly like everything I have ever heard from them.  You decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

In other news, Soulja Boy released a new album today, too.  And it’s not about a super hero of any sort.  I have to say, what I have heard of this album is so weird that I actually like it.  He’s got some creepy and deep vocals juxtaposed against distorted lead guitar with standard hip-hop beats.  If nothing else, it’s interesting.

If you want to do something charitable this holiday season but don’t know where to start, don’t have much to spare yourself – or just don’t want to get off your fat, lazy ass (hey, that’s OK by us), all you have to do is add this “Regift the Fruitcake” Facebook application.

Built as a “viral charity campaign” by PayPal, “Regift the Fruitcake” has teamed-up with six celebrities – Pete Wentz, Nicole Richie, Joel  Madden, Tony Hawk, Jimmie Johnson  and Ben Roethlisberger – to regift digital “fruitcakes” through the Facebook application. Those lucky enough to receive one of the celebrity fruitcakes can then donate to that celebrity’s charity of choice and have a chance at a $100,000 grand prize ($50,000 to you, $50,000 to a participating PayPal charity).

PayPal has already donated $20,000 to each of the six celebrity’s charities to get the ball rolling. All you have to do is click a freakin’ button…

THEIR DEAL: Formed in 2001, this Midwestern pop quartet has sky-rocketed toward being one of the biggest pop-punk bands…EVER. They make girls scream and their bassist wears a lot of eyeliner.

THE DIRT: In some sort of charity endeavor, which may or may not be “officially” charity, the band is now looking for unsigned bands to open for them. I guess they finally just got so famous that they wanted to spread the love around. Unsigned bands playing for an arena full of pop-punk Fall Out Boy fans? Umm…this sounds like a disaster to me. Pete Wentz’s band, Fall Out Boy, for which he is the principal lyricist and bass player, has sold upwards of 5 million albums worldwide. Decadence Records, Wentz’s label, has signed bands like Gym Class Heroes, Panic at the Disco and The Academy Is…, who’ve all turned into massive successes. Clandestine Industries, Wentz’s clothing line and book publishing company, recently opened the flagship location in Wentz’s hometown of Chicago. He’s been busy in his personal life too, marrying his muse, Ashlee Simpson last month. And the two are expecting their first child later this year.

You’d think as a successful musician, entrepreneur and family man, Wentz would want to settle down a little, and soak it all in. Wrong! He’s just gearing-up for his biggest project yet: redefining the way we experience music videos on TV and the Web, as host of MTV’s new show, “FN MTV.”

So we got Wentz on the phone to talk to him about life, music and the next big thing in music video history!

First there were rumors that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz of “Fall Out Boy” got “his and hers nose jobs” and although there is no proof I wouldn’t put it past them. Then the rumors were flying that Simpson was knocked up. If this were true I’d petition for a court ordered paternity test cause I’m still convinced Wentz is a homo. Getting back to the point the latest rumor from the ultimate musical sell-out faux emo power couple is they are to be hitched in spring of 2008. $50 says Pete Wentz hyphenates his last name… Pete Wentz-Simpson. Being a writer for a college aged audience, I feel that you can understand my plight about socks. Socks themselves are tremendous. They provide comfort and keep me blister free during the five minutes of physical excersize I do a week as well as keep my extensive sneaker collection stench-free. However, when it comes to doing laundry, I always come out with one extra sock. I guess extra is the wrong word, I should say that I always lose one sock and there is one left over with no partner. This is more than just a metaphor for the members’ of Fall Out Boys‘ love lives, it is a conspiracy. Laundromats, college and apartment building’s laundry rooms, and sock companies are clearly in cahoots with each other. Every load of laundry someone in our situation does, these evil machines steal one of our socks, ship them to a warehouse, and they repackage them and resell them in department stores everywhere. I know this is not exactly a fashion article, but I am sick and tired of being taken advantage of by the Maytag Man and it is time for us self-sufficient, laundry-doing men to do something about this. Sock wearers of the world unite.
