Last week, Passion Pit’s “Swimming in the Flood” bested the competition with more than 60% of the total vote. However, today, we’re mourning the loss of Heavy D who died at the young age of 44. While we don’t feature any of his music in this edition of Songs of the Week, we do shine the spotlight on tracks from REM, Red Gold & Green, Childish Gambino, The Black Keys, and Florence + the Machin. This past Friday I got the chance to trek down to Atlantic City for the Childish Gambino concert. First of all, if you haven’t listened to Gambino yet you have been missing out. He hasn’t put out any physical releases yet, but his online mixtapes have been nothing short of awesome. His 2010 release Culdesac put him on the map and he hasn’t slowed down since. 2011 saw him release E.P. and on November 15th his first full length album, Camp, will drop in stores and online. First, let’s define “relevant”. It’s “Closely connected or appropriate to the matter at hand”. In terms of stand up comedy, that means having a connection with your audience. You’re up there on stage, making observations, and the audience whether they sympathize, empathize, or just process what you’re saying and they respond in a favorable way (read: they f***ing laugh and clap). Comedians like Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy and Jerry Seinfeld became huge celebrities because audiences could relate to them in some way. But those guys aren’t “relevant” today. I’ve been following Donald Glover‘s career since 2006 when he raped a bro I’ve known since Kindergarten (BTW, SNL’s Bobby Moynihan makes an appearance). Back in those days Donald produced videos with his internet sketch comedy group Derrick Comedy and now years later you can see Donald alongside Joel McHale in NBC’s Community, or in this well known Funny or Die I am Tiger Woods parody video. There was even a rumor circulating that he was going to be the new Spiderman.

I randomly ran into Donald Glover at the Ace Hotel in Manhattan this morning and it got me amped to revive our 8 Most Hilarious Derrick Comedy Videos. These Derrick videos really are some of the funniest clips on YouTube. 97 million people have watched their videos on YouTube but if this is your first taste of Derrick Comedy, then brace yourself, you’re in for a treat.

The hottest video on the internet Tuesday was without a doubt, Funny or Die’s hilarious I am Tiger Woods parody video starring Donald Glover of NBC’s hit comedy Community. As it turns out, this was not Donald Glover’s first internet video hit. His internet sketch comedy group Derrick Comedy has been producing wildly original and successful videos (we’re talking 83,000,000 total views!) since their days at NYU.
