So this is not exactly what they said would happen, and I am confused.
Where the hell did the $850B package go? That’s right, it’s not really $700B – add another $150B in EARMARKS…after all of this debating over reducing earmarks, we witnessed the largest earmark in US history. But let’s put that aside for a moment, and ponder why – if $100B is being injected into the market today – the credit crunch is worse than ever? Hmmm…great job guys…top notch planning. (more…)

As I write this, the Republican National telethon Convention has officially started. Following Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans began their convention Monday–albeit hindered “because of hurricane Gustav.” But convention coverage has barely broken the exhilarating stranglehold of natural disaster in the mainstream media. Those silly bastards just can’t shut up about the hurricane(s), something that affects only a small portion of the national population. And while it might seem like some small tragedy–and somehow unfair–that the Repubs won’t get as much coverage as the Democrats, don’t be fooled.
This is the best bit of stratagem by the Republicans since Newt Gingrich and the spooge-stained dress. While the 24-hour news channels focuse on the impending doom of Hurricane Gustav and incoming Hanna, McCain and “friends” have taken the opportunity to release some of the most damning information about the Palin pick, saving them countless voters-worth of embarrassment. Here are all the reasons Gustav, Hanna and the rest of the storms are good for the Republicans this week, very good… (more…)

Six Signs Your Summer Fling Won’t Last
Once your tan fades, so will the love. End it now if you’re the type who gets attached. There’s no way the two of you will make it past August. [CollegeOTR]

UT Student Trades Out Political Signs
A UT economics senior sparked the idea for an online program that allows Hillary Clinton supporters to trade in their loyalties.
After Sen. Clinton’s resignation from the presidential race, Andre Nader, a BuildASign.com intern, introduced the idea for a promotional campaign that offers free Barack Obama signs to customers who send in their Hillary Clinton signs. Launched Friday, the program intends to consolidate support for the Democratic Party and to promote recycling.
The Austin-based online business normally sells the Obama signs for $27, but now offers them for free, when a customer sends in a Clinton sign. [Daily Texan]

Holliday The Fastest Football Player Ever? LSU Says So
LSU this summer is touting junior wide receiver Trindon Holliday as the fastest player in college football.
Ever.
On paper, they appear to be right. The 5-foot-6 Holliday, a reserve player last year for national-champion LSU, ran a 10.02 in the 100 meters at last year’s NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Only 69 people have ever run it faster and, according to LSU, none have ever played football or were playing at the time they were clocked.
Holliday, who scored two touchdowns last season, is hoping to make the U.S. Olympic team next month. If you saw LSU play last season, you know how dynamic he can be with the ball in his hands.
“He is a football player with track ability,” Tigers football coach Les Miles told CBSSports.com. [Nashville City Paper]

In a marbled speech, on a sunny afternoon, in Washington D.C. today, Sen. Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign for the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Warnings of the wounded-but-writhing Republican machine and calls of party unity led to a climatic “Yes We Can” endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama.

Sen. Barack Obama has secured enough delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination for President, beating Sen. Hillary Clinton in the five-month-long race. Even if he loses today’s primaries, in South Dakota and Montana, he will still have enough committed delegates to declare himself the winning candidate, according to the Associated Press count (which is the count the Hillary campaign has been using).
Get all the details after the jump! (more…)
