Tuesday’s Album Releases: Crappy Emo and Soulja Boy

falloutboy3

If you like emo music, I’m not going to pretend to understand why.  But I will tell you something:  today is your day.  On this day, two bands released albums.  These two bands happen to be going on tour together, too.  They’re band friends and it’s really cute.  Fall Out Boy released their “Folie a Deux” today.  It sounds very Fall Out Boyish, but….there is something different about it.  I can hardly put my finger on what it is that is different…but it does seem as though the boys are falling into the shoes of men.  Or…they’re trying to.

The other said band, All American Rejects, released their “When The World Comes Down” today.  It sounds pretty much exactly like everything I have ever heard from them.  You decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

In other news, Soulja Boy released a new album today, too.  And it’s not about a super hero of any sort.  I have to say, what I have heard of this album is so weird that I actually like it.  He’s got some creepy and deep vocals juxtaposed against distorted lead guitar with standard hip-hop beats.  If nothing else, it’s interesting.

Other albums released today:

Dave Matthews Band, “Live at Mile High Music Festival

Keyshia Cole, “A Different Me

Jamie Foxx, “Intuition

Is it just me, or is everyone dying all of a sudden? Well, it has to happen sometime, but some old age for warning seems, at least, reasonable–that’s all I’m sayin’.

The Youth Vote: We Can Be Bought

mccain-obama-party-1.jpg

A growing sense of disdain for Dubya didn’t cut it. Being able to register at the DMV just didn’t do the trick either. P. Diddy couldn’t get us to do it, for Christ’s sake. So just what will it take to seriously win the youth vote? We are, after all, 20 million strong and dammit we deserve to be wooed!

I, for one, would like to see an increase in, shall we say, “game” from candidates both blue and red. McCain, obviously, has taken a step toward this lofty goal by recruiting the support of one of our high holy leaders. Sorry, Obama, that you have neglected to secure such a prestigious pledge of loyalty from the chosen generation (us, duh) but feel free to borrow any of these gems that I think would increase voter turnout for those of the youthful persuasion. You see gentlemen, the key to our hearts is to manipulate our basic dependence upon the following:

Natty Lite
Slap some platform positions on the back of those bad boys and cover up the saddening nutrition facts–we don’t need to see that anyways. I consider this a double-edged sword. Not only would the important issues be readily at hand (provided you go coozie-less), but additionally, voters can appreciate the conversational lubrication that is cheap beer. As inspiring as 4.2% alcohol can be to philosophical convos (if you drink, don’t EVEN pretend you’ve never been there post bar crawl!) that stuff takes a while to imbibe, making those discussions last just a wee bit longer. Now that a pseudo intellectual discush has gone down, both candidates have enjoyed spirited (literally) debate over their issues that should inspire sober consideration come November. (more…)

Dave Matthews Plays Your School for Free?!

DMB Free show

The Dave Matthews Band is giving students at 100 universities the opportunity to win a free concert in the fall of 2007. Holy crap thats sick! If DMB ever played at Seton Hall I’d probably OD of crack-cocaine or drink myself into a coma or who knows… maybe I’d do both! Regardless of my thoughts on the situation I’ll give you some details after the jump… (more…)
