“Dimebag Darell” aka “Diamond Darrell” aka Darrell Lance Abbott was an American guitarist best known as a founding member of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan. Six years ago today, Dimebag was murdered on stage during a Damageplan performance in Columbus, Ohio. Guitar Player magazine included him on their list of “The 50 Greatest Tones of All Time” and Allmusic described him as “one of the most influential stylists in modern metal.” He was the first American musician murdered on stage while performing. December 8th is a day of infamy in Rock N’ Roll. On this date in 1980 Mark David Chapman murdered John Lennon outside of his hotel in New York City. Twenty-four years later, on the same date, Former Pantera and Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrell was murdered onstage during a performance in Columbus, Ohio.
