There are a slew of influences out there in this wet ‘n’ wild world. Ya got drugs, alcohol, TV, movies, music – just about everything and anything can make an impression on you. We write a lot about those influences and, for me at least, women seem to be the most influential. I’d say 95% of what I do on a daily basis is based on what women want and like. Comedians often live a tragic life, it’s the only job where you’re judged purely on whether they make people happy or not. What if they’re not funny? Do they think they’re funny? In turn, these types of questions can take a serious toll on a person’s body and state of mind, especially once you start taking the amounts of drugs that some of these comedians did. First, let’s define “relevant”. It’s “Closely connected or appropriate to the matter at hand”. In terms of stand up comedy, that means having a connection with your audience. You’re up there on stage, making observations, and the audience whether they sympathize, empathize, or just process what you’re saying and they respond in a favorable way (read: they f***ing laugh and clap). Comedians like Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy and Jerry Seinfeld became huge celebrities because audiences could relate to them in some way. But those guys aren’t “relevant” today.
