This year’s Lollapalooza took place this past weekend (8/5-8/7). I had the opportunity to go in 2009 and it was covered in awesome sauce. Judging by this year’s pics, it looks like the lineup didn’t disappoint. As the late, great lead singer of Sublime Bradley Nowell once sang “Summer time and the living’s easy.” What makes the living easy (besides the weather, beaches, pools, barbecues, girls, and baseball)? How about the crazy good concerts and music festivals? There is nothing better than going to see a show on a nice summer day or night with a fun group of friends. Although in past years ticket prices have been rather outrageous, many artists are making changes to accommodate their fans in today’s tough economic times. I have put together a little guide to let you know about some great shows worth catching this summer. Check it out after the jump!

Esquire released their summer playlist of 30 songs every man should listen to this summer. Of the 30 there were a lot of newcomers and up-and-comers mixed in with jams from slightly more recognizable groups. While the suggestions are pretty solid, we felt there are 10 more noteworthy tracks that deserve a spot on your iPod. Cee-Lo Green is one of the most underrated artist of the 21st century. Although he’s known for rapping with Goodie Mob, his thriving solo career, and cameo’s on other artist tracks, he’s never really got the recognition he deserves. Hopefully he can change that with his newest album; “The Lady Killer.”

2006 was the year of Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and dance-pop songs. If you were putting together a playlist at the time, at least one, if not a combination, of such tracks would’ve been added. It seems like a long time ago, but the year started on a low note with the massive Haitian earthquake. A volcano in Iceland volcano erupted, disrupting flights all across Europe. In other awful news, the oil platform exploded, leaking oil everywhere. Thanks, BP. Not all was bad though, as the 33 Chilean miners were saved after a record 69 days. If you can’t remember the sounds of 2010, then you’ve got serious memory issues – but it saw the second (or third/fourth) coming of electronic music. Cee-Lo Green’s new album is in stores today and it’s getting rave reviews. We found this kick-ass video for his cover of Band of Horse’s “No One’s Gonna Love You.” Cee-Lo’s cover is quite different from the original but the Band of Horses said they liked it more than their own version. If COED had a video award show I would absolutely nominate this for Video of the Year in two seconds!
