COED Nation, what’s good in your world? Welcome to another edition of Al Jones’ Songs of the Week. Hope you have endured all of the hype that surrounds the Super Bowl. It is Super Bowl week this week. I know I am on the edge of my seat because I am a Patriots fan, and even though we are favored in the game, we all know that the Giants are the favorites. July 11th is Cheer Up The Lonely Day. Originally, I was going to pull a bunch of pics of people, animals, and objects looking hilariously lonely. Then it came to me. The Lonely Island. They could cheer up the loneliest of loners. So, we’ve ranked their top 10 funniest music videos. But that’s not all, we’ve also put together a list of recordi… Click to read more

We’ve been pretty nostalgic here at COED lately. Earlier today, we showed you candid pics from the 61st and 62nd Academy Awards. In early February, we showed you yearbook photos of a former fat kid turned skinny rock star comedian and a beautiful blonde who went from hoodies to hot hand bras. Now, we turn our attention to the music industry with yearbook photos of 41 famous “rock stars”. While you may notice not everyone in our gallery can be categorized as “rock”, you have to admit they underwent a “rock star” transformation. Can you guess the identities without looking at the captions? See the pics after the jump!

On a gloomy weekday, one’s mind wanders to the delicious anticipation of that drink to finally send the week packin’. The thing about daydreaming is you get hung up on the most nitty gritty details, like what song would I want to listen to while I drink that Miami Vice? So, I’ve gone ahead and selected a few matches here, where the ingredient… Click to read more

One of the best things about Christmas time is the music. It’s bright, colorful, and warm; just what you need to get through the cold winter months. I, being a young angry man, have the punk rock attitude of going a bit against the grain. While I do appreciate the likes of Burl Ives, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and even the wholly depressing “Happy Christmas (War Is Over)” by John Lennon, I prefer my diet of Christmas music to be a bit more modern. So today I bring to you, some of my favorite modern Christmas tunes. Enjoy!!

For anyone who follows Bruce Springsteen or Arcade Fire, (and that’s a lot of you) you might notice they have a mutual appreciation for each others music. Aside from being featured on the cover of SPIN magazine together, Bruce & Arcade Fire have shared the stage a couple of times, including performances for President Obama. Arcade Fire frontman, Win Butler, recently compiled a list of his top 14 Springsteen songs. How do Win’s ranking stack up against yours? Let us know after the jump!

Okay, I’ll admit that musicians aren’t necessarily the best actors (hell, a lot of actors aren’t always the best actors), but that doesn’t change the fact that it can be a lot of fun when they surprise us in movies. Lars Ulrich did this recently when he appeared in Get Him to the Greek and that’s what motivated me to come up with… Click to read more

In this age of digital music downloads, the thought of walking into a record store to buy music seems like only something your grandparents (or at least your parents) would do – the fools! But such changes in technology and the way we consume music doesn’t just hurt the corporate music execs, it also means independently owned music shops…

We’ve all heard reports of interrogators blasting music at prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, and we’ve always wondered what songs they consider bad enough to be torture – and now we know. Today, British law group Reprieve has released a list of the most played tracks at Guantanamo Bay prison, used to break down prisoners. And we have to say, if… Click to read more

Just this morning I was thinking to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great if another 80s icon ran for governor?” Well, guess what? Today, my ultimate wish has came true: Jon Bon Jovi is planning to run for governor of New Jersey.
He’s a cowboy – on a steel horse he rides – but does Jon Bon Jovi have what it takes to wrassle up a worthw… Click to read more
