After months of seeing the game of college football take its lumps, the 2011 season is finally all up in your TV sets stealing your time. The action actually got underway last night (September 1st) with a bunch of blowouts and one OT contest between the Orangemen and the Deacons. There are only 2 games on the docket for tonight (9/2), so we’re going to preview the top 5 games to watch this weekend. Check ‘em out below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

As we mentioned in our post on the Texas Thong-horns, this past offseason has been marred by controversy and scandal, moreso than any other season. Even with the heated debate over student-ath-o-leets reaching a fevered pitch, we’re going out on a limb and guaranteeing those distractions will disappear once the pads start clashing. Over the years there have been games you just knew would go down in history. Doug Flutie’s Hail Mary to lead Boston College past the Miami Hurricanes in ’84. The infamous Stanford-Cal game that saw the Golden Bears win with the help of the Cardinal band in ’82. So, which games in recent history will be remembered in another 30 years as the best of the era?

Fall is here and while the NFL gets most of the crap games out of the way early; they call it pre-season (watch at your risk), in college they do not do something neat like that. No, instead, most teams wait a few weeks before playing anyone of consequence. It’s like they have to wait for it to cool down some before they can actually play some real football! If you want to actually watch a competitive football game or two before the leaves start changing colors then read on.
