The very first issue of Rolling Stone magazine was published on November 9, 1967. In the debut issue, Jann wrote, “is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces.” During the 1980s the magazine began to shift focus towards being a general “entertainment” magazine. Music was still a dominant topic but there was increasing coverage of celebrities in television, movies and the pop culture of the day. The magazine also initiated its annual “Hot Issue” during this time. With it came sexier covers. To celebrate the anniversary of the mag’s premiere, we’ve pulled together its 39 sexiest covers. During our Hugh-mongous Hugh Weekend back in April, we posted Playboy’s Sexiest Celebrities 2011 list and asked you who you thought was the sexiest. The top 3 vote getters? Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Olivia Wilde. None of the 3 have ever posed totally nude nor have they posed for Playboy. While Playmates are hot, nothing’s hotter than seeing a celebrity pictorial. Why? We don’t know. Maybe because it’s so rare? Maybe because it’s taboo? Maybe it’s the grand reveal? Whatever the reason, we decided to release our wish list of female celebs we’d like to see nude in Playboy. It’s hard to believe we are halfway through 2011 and have nothing to show for it. Is it just me or has this year felt like a waste? Enough is enough and now is time to change all that. As we mentioned earlier, Rosie Huntington Whiteley was #1 on Maxim’s Hot 100 list while Brooklyn Decker took a backseat to Avril Lavigne and Miley Cyrus somehow placed above Diora Baird. Plus, Cameron Diaz at #4? Yeah, she loves porn and flying cross country for d*ck, but still. With any list, the creators are bound to be skewered and scrutinized – that’s part of the appeal.  Overall, Maxim’s was pretty solid, but we think there were some glaring omissions that deserve some credit for their bodies… of work.
