A few days ago, my cousin sent me an article on a Banksy exhibit in the Hamptons (yes, street art exhibit in the Hamptons – another story altogether). Essentially, it explains some controversy about people stealing the “criminal’s” artwork off of the wall and then selling it for hundreds of thousands of dollars – something Banksy can’t do himself because he’s a wanted criminal. On June 1st, the AP ran a story about a hubcap artist / hubcap art collector by the name of Ken Marquis who founded LandFillArt, which is described on the website as “an artist reclamation project”. Over the past three years, he’s collected more than 1,000 pieces from artists in more than 50 countries. One artist who takes hubcap art to a whole ‘nother level is Ptolemy Elrington. UK newspaper, The Telegraph, featured the fruits of his labor a while back. Something tells me he’s the man behind the Iron Man suit, not Tony Stark.
