Michael Vick vs. The Food Chain

Michael_Vick_foodchain_britney_nude

Yeah, yeah, yeah - dogs are cute and precious, blah, blah, blah. PETA, PETA, PETA - puppy dogs, rainbows and unicorns…

Michael Vick didn’t kill a human; they were f@cking dogs - case closed. There have been countless examples of athletes responsible for deaths - Ray Lewis barely avoided murder charges - let alone drunk driving or worse (let’s not even discuss child support).

Now, it has been a long time since junior high but when last I checked, not only were dogs domesticated animals (that fall much lower on the food chain than humans) but we have killed domesticated animals for much lesser crimes. The ASPCA kills tens of thousands of domesticated animals on a weekly basis. Also, when in the hell did PETA become a lobby group in charge of upholding federal policy?

Don’t get me wrong - Pamela Anderson has great tits, but she needs to shut the f@ck up and just sit there and look pretty. Doesn’t she still have hepatitis or AIDS or some random strand of filth she caught from Kid Rock? Go get therapy bitch, and leave Michael Vick alone.

I agree that killing animals for random reasons is cruel; but fine him. Community Service. Any other mundane nonsense that we normally throw at bullsh!t crimes is the categorical reprimand this deserves.

He was making $100M. Can you imagine the good he would have been able to do in the furthering of animals’ rights with his fame and money? Am I on crazy pills or am I the only one who sees this as another step in the wussification of the public perception of justice? Michael Vick should be free - fine him, spank him, cane him, WHATEVER - but jail? WTF! Anyone who thinks this is enough to completely ruin a man’s life, is bat shit insane and should be spayed and neutered because they shouldn’t taint the gene pool.

Michael Vick’s contribution to the game of football is enormously more valuable than the lives of 10,000 dogs and 72 kittens.

I have spoken.

its about time that someone speaks the truth

  2. panthersrule says :

Hey West Point John….If facing charges on animal cruelty were all of Vicks problems he would have gone to court. He was going to face federal RACKETEERING charges among many other more serious offenses. Yes killing dogs in the manner he did was unacceptable but that is not what he was going to do the most time in jail for. So your wussification argument is meaningless. Next time think before you speak

panthers - i think you should cry me a river

  4. panthersrule says :

ooo good one. All the people that hang on to Vicks jock strap are the ones cryin. wah wah those bad bad white people are throwin my hero in jail. So what if he as the ringleader of a multi million dollar illegal gambling ring. He can run real fast and that makes him above the law.

  5. CCB says :

I don’t hate Vick and I not particular about certain animals but the Law is the Law. So, I agree with Panthersrule, Mike Vick should go to Jail for 5 years just like it says. Do you think the NAACP would have come to our rescue. The answer would have benn NO!!. Mike Vick and his lawyers paid the NAACP. My Peeps the NAACP is no better than the KKK. They cause hate and discontent. They just try to cry that every thing is racial even if it is not. Vick should be banned from the NFL for Life just like Pete Rose or someone for Pete Rose should sue the MLB or NFL. Because gambling is gambling.

  6. BB says :

Wow…anyone that can pass off what Vick has done as being worth only a fine or a spanking is missing the same moral fiber that Vick is. Why would he use that $100M that he has or would earn to further animal rights? He has been using his money to further illegal dogfighting. And finally, Vick has contributed nothing to the game of football. He contributed a lot to VT in terms of recruitment and student enrollment, but to the game of football…no. He was an amazing athlete but a terrible QB, leader and apparently person. The game of football is better off without Michael Vick in it.

WP John: I got your post via my blog, thanks a lot.

This is what I said in reponse:

I am quite glad you said this, because I am working on a article about this topic for a publication I work for.

There’s a lot of truth to what have you said, and I agree with some of what you pointed out.

I actually do think the hoopla over this has gone way overboard, and I am shocked a lot more people are upset over dogs, than let’s say assault, or sexual crimes or murder.

The fact of the matter is Mr. Vick committed a serious felony, and he’s got to be culpable for his deeds.

I have no remorse for the man, and just because he’s an athlete who has been given God-given athletic ability does not mean he should not pay a price.

I am not even upset at the gambling or he going to dog-fighting matches, he’s lost my respect as a person for lying, his overall arrogance, and the torture he engaged in.

Honestly, what he did borders on being a sociopath.

It’s almost like he thought he’d get away with the crime, and his lawyers and handlers would take care of him.

Why he would engage in this behavior and throw his life away, keep in mind a life where he was praised, had riches and got everything he wanted.

If he was some faceless CEO of some large company, it would be one thing; however, he’s a major celebrity in America and it’s just plain pathetic.

I don’t advocate barring him from making a living in the NFL, but he’ll never be what he was ever again.

Mr. Vick is the Horatio Alger story gone completely wrong.

America gives people a second chance routinely; alas, he’ll have to be truly remorseful and make serious changes.

Thanks for the post and your opinions, it’s really appreciated.

    You’re welcome Anthony!

As for the others, I clearly stated that I was not PRO-Animal killing. However, RICO laws were created to combat organized crime and bootlegging from the 20’s - now it has basically become a blanket to cover financial embezzlement and illegal gambling.

It is important to note that the goal of goal of incarceration is to either keep dangerous criminals off of the streets or, in theory, to rehabilitate those who have strayed from societal norms. Case in point, Michael Vick. To think that all people are the same and are motivated by the same things is silly. Here is a millionaire athlete with what was a golden image.

    Do we:
    A. Put him in jail
    B. Parade him around as a poster child for animal abuse

    Hmmm…any takers?

  10. BeachLovr says :

Vick broke the law, plain and simple, he deserves to do time. He is not above the law, no matter how much he may like to believe that. And the fact that he is famous and in the spotlight is the more reason to make an example out of him and give him the maximum term for his crimes to deter others from engaging in the same despicable activities.

  11. Phenomenon says :

I really don’t understand the big deal about all this…So dogs were bred to fight other dogs to the death….and some were brutally hurt in the process. No question it is an abominable act…but are we forgetting these are DOGS!?! Fine him, Community service, but JAIL ?!? not giving him the ability to earn a living by banning from the NFL?!? who are we kidding…

Butchers kill animals everyday:cattle, sheep, deer, goats, pigs, and no they are not killed mercifully, they are killed brutally by getting their heads chopped off. Is that ok because we have to eat? Just because dogs are more commonly subjected to be our “pets” are they any more “better” than other animals ?In some cultures they even eat dogs as food. Animals are killed for fur eveyday. Realize that at the end of the day,we are talking about dogs, and not people!!!!

What about when people kill animals while hunting? they are deliberately inflicting pain on an animal. Does it make it any better that its not a dog? Just because we are used to dogs being our pets, they are “better” animals than the ones we eat??

They way they were brutally killed is definitely an abominable act….and Mike Vick should be reprimanded for that…but not with JAIL TIME, and taking his right to earn in the future.

Having said all this, just want to add that this is coming from someone who has owned dogs as pets. I love dogs as pets but not for one moment will I treat someone who killed a dog as someone who murdered a human being(which is what Vick is being portrayed as).
