It was bound to happen: a collaboration between Shaolin’s finest and Liverpool’s favorite lads. It has been confirmed that yes, Wu-Tang Clan will be “covering” the George Harrison-penned “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from The Beatles’ classic self-titled 1967 album (also known as the “White Album”). The song is titled “Gently Weeps” and will (hopefully) be featured on the upcoming 8 Diagrams, the Wu’s first studio album since 2001’s Iron Flag.

Before Beatlemaniacs get their collective panties in a bunch, know that George Harrison’s son, Dhani Harrison, has not only given a nod of approval but will be featured on the backing track, playing acoustic guitar alongside chord-molester John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Can you say “posse cut”?

In the lyrics department Method Man and Ghostface Killah act out a story involving heroin dealers (Ghost), twitched-out users (Meth) and everything in between - standard Wu fare since Only Built 4 Cuban Linx dropped in 1995. Whether it’s more “Method-acting” than Method acting is to be seen and heard if the track does, in fact, make it onto 8 Diagrams (coming out November 13).

While past instances of pop/rock covers by rappers (and vice versa) have been…uh…less than satisfactory to say the least, Wu-Tang fans have high-hopes for this song. The hip-hop collective’s past track record of track’s that cover records of the past (say that ten times fast) has been outstanding; we can only pray to the Godz that “Gently Weeps” isn’t a total creative failure.

If only Ol’ Dirty was alive - I can picture him tackling Harrison’s golden-throated vocals without a hitch.
