Will Led Zeppelin Headline Bonnaroo 2008?

led_zeppelin_bonnaroo

It has been rumored that Led Zeppelin will be headlining (alongside Metallica) at 2008’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival in Manchester, TN.

Led Zeppelin, arguably the greatest rock and roll band of all time, have not played together since the early 1990’s. They recently announced a one-off tribute show at O2 Arena in London for the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegün.

Over 20 million fans from all over the globe requested tickets to the December 10 show. As of today it will cost at least $2,000+ dollars to buy a ticket on the resale market.

Like The Police in 2007, Led Zeppelin’s decision to headline “the largest hippy festival in the world,” frequented by college students on summer break is a great way to introduce themselves to a new (read: younger) group of hardcore fans.

The four-day festival begins June 12, and the official Bonnaroo website says tickets will go on sale in March of 2008. Start saving now.

    Well,
they probably can play less sloppy than the stones but jesus!!!!!
Plant stopped hitting high notes required for there songs like 20 yrs ago.
A bloated Jimmy page may still have the speed..
I saw the Eagles a few nites ago on the Country awards show and they sounded exactly the same as the did back in 1971,
only a couple yrs after Zep came out.
There are quite a few of the old classic rock bunch the are as strong sounding as they ever were..But I don’t know about Zepplin…David Lee couldn’t hit the notes anymore on the previous Van Halen tour so I don’t know..

Some times you end up seeing a caricture of the original band.
I think someone who would pay 2,000.00 to see them wouldn’t care if they sounded horrible.
He/She just would be content to see Led Zepplin live so I guess for them, any price is worth it.

Led Zeppelin (notice the spelling here, Tony) IS the greatest rock band of all time and I would love the chance to see them, even in their age and possibly declining musical ability. Their contributions to rock are immeasurable! I am, however, disappointed at the price tag. This is a band that has been kept alive by the fans, old and young/new, and it would be nice if that was remembered when setting ticket prices.

This is a crap story pulled from an unconfirmed Lefsetz posting.

Zeppelin just confirmed for Bonnaroo. They can’t officially announce until after the London gig so pass it on!

Also Metallica is confirmed on the bill too!

This sounds like complete BS to me. As a Bonnaroo attendee for the last several years, the thought of Metallica of all bands headlining is absolutely ridiculous.

The article even mentions that Bonnaroo is “the largest hippie festival in the world.” I don’t know about you, but I don’t know a lot of hippie metal-heads. They’re almost mutually exclusive, in fact.

This insane suggestion about Metallica really makes me question the idea of Zeppelin playing there since it comes from the same source. However, if Zeppelin does decide to play Bonnaroo, they will absolutely sell out. A lot of hippies like Zeppelin. Of course, how can you not like Zeppelin? :-D

  7. steve says :

metallica will never be asked to headline a festival like Bonnaroo.. This story is bullshit

I think Metallica would be a horrible fit, I never liked the band, however I have been to every Bonnaroo, and it wouldn’t surprise me. They had Tool last year. To me Tool are musical gods, but they are every bit as hard and dark as Metallica. Zeppelin makes complete sense, they would be a wonderful Sat Night headliner. If it indeed is Metallica I will stay at camp and get silly, rather then trek down to center roo in 100 degree heat to watch those has beens. they were at one time great, but no longer. hang it up, especially you Lars! Smug bastardo you haha.

  10. Allison says :

I didn’t go to bonnaroo last year, despite having gone from 04-06, mostly because the line-up wasn’t exciting. Tool is too dark for me, I hate Sting, and I’ve seen Panic plenty of times. Tons of hippies like Zeppelin, including me, but I don’t know any who like Metallica. So the question is, will this kind of show draw a different crowd? Half the beauty of roo is that it’s largely self-policed and non-violent, but will this continue if a band like Metallica plays? I will go if Zeppelin is there. No question… but I will be a little more concerned for my safety than usual. I hope the bonnaroo staff remembers that hippies tend to be easier to deal with.

    Music 2 my ears!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Skeeter says :

    Out of place for Bonnaroo?
Do you even know what Bonnaroo means?
    Or is?
Or ever been to it before?
    People are morons.
There is a VERY good chance of them playing…
so mock all the rumors you want.
I’ve been to every Bonnaroo and I can assure you…anything can happen.

  13. rob says :

im going no matter what the line up is, i love the good ppl!!! zepp or not, but hey, dude wouldnt that be awsome?!!!!zeppelin? fu*k metallica lets Not have another woodstock 99″

  14. aaron says :

Who will Led Zeppelin have as an opening act on their 2008 US tour???
The rumors have finally been silenced: Plant has personally tapped his illegitimate son’s band–MEAN VENUS–to open all 2008 shows.
MEAN VENUS’ lead singer, J, when recently interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine, spoke of his utter disbelief at the prospect:
“I only found out he [Plant] was my dad a few years ago.
My mum hid it from me for the majority of my life. So to actually be going on the road with my Dad is bloody outrageous!”.

  15. Bobby Mushoda says :

No better band in rock history than Led Zeppelin and with over a BILLION hits on the website for reunion tickets and 25 million attempts to register, it’s clear that more than just ‘hippies’ love Led Zeppelin. They have outsold every band in history except The Beatles.

  16. Ed says :

YEAH! WOW! I have been hearing about this all over the place. I guess if Bonham’s kid is going to be onboard that Plan’t should be too. Pretty crazy. MEAN VENUS. Going to have to check them out. If it’s Plant’s kid singing he has to be good!!!

    See at the shows!!!

    Ed

  17. Terry says :

i think this is tru. i have read it in three different places so far. i didnt even know robert had a kid let alone a musician. should make the reunion even MORE interesting.

    ciao!

  18. Bonnie says :

I also heard that this mean venus band lost their bass player and that John Paul Jones sat in on the recording of their debut album. Don’t know if it’s true but that’s is what is going around.

  19. emma says :

check them out - http://www.meanvenus.com i think he looks like bonham! their music is cool too!

  20. anthony mascarello says :

what the fuck is the matter with you all — first of all led zeppelin isn’t going its les zeppelin but if zepp did go they would definitly fit in you idiots their a jam band if you would know anything about them–im 15 and i know more than you retards and metallica is fucking kick ass and they can jam too idiots i tell you they are prifessional musicians and they can play thier hearts god damn there are stupid people in the world

  21. Victoria says :

I think what Anthony is trying to say is that if you look closely at the Bonnaroo 2008 lineup on the official website, it clearly lists the following bands as attending: “Pearl Jam, Metallica . . . Lez Zeppelin . . .”

Notice the z in Lez? That’s right, Lez Zeppelin is an all-female band. I don’t know why they chose Lez, since they don’t seem to be gay; but, one thing I’m sure of . . . they’re not Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones. To learn some history about the real Led Zeppelin, check out: History of Led Zeppelin

BTW, sorry Steve, but Metalicca is confirmed according to the official Bonnaroo website: “All acts advertised have confirmed their appearance at the 2008 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival”.

I have to admit I am with Anthony on another note: Metallica can jam with best of them; and, I myself know many hippies who love Metallica.

  22. estelle says :

This mean venus guy has supposedly landed the Velvet Revolver gig now. i guess it is all who you know in the music business. he better be fricking good that’s all i know. plant’s son or not, scott weiland has some pretty big shoes to fill. good luck there “J”. hope this dont interfere with the reunion tour ;)
