Wes Anderson’s Perfect Playlist [Listen Here!]

wes-anderson

If you’re idea of “deep” and “meaningful” storytelling revolves around characters whose primary defining features involve being quirky, then you’re probably a huge Wes Anderson fan. But whatever you think of the (sometimes) brilliant director of Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Darjeeling Limited, you can’t argue his serious style credentials. So now that Anderson’s revealed to ThisRecording.com his “perfect mixtape”, “cool” people are clamoring to catch a listen. Luckily for them (you?), we’ve already done the dirty work.

10 Classical Music Pieces Guaranteed to Melt Your Face

Beethoven-lead

Nobody f**king listens to classical music anymore, besides your rich grandfather who wears a sweater year-round and drinks brandy. And that’s a shame, since some of the most badass tunes ever written come from that era. So, in an attempt to get you to listen to something besides that assclown, Asher Roth, the good people at EarFarm have put together a list of the “Top 10 Most Metal Classical Music Pieces.” And you thought Vivaldi was a p*ssy… [via TheDailySwarm]

Download Spin’s Prince Tribute, “Purplish Rain”, (Almost) Free!

spin-coverIn the July ‘09 issue, Spin magazine writer, Brian Raftery has put together an excellent oral history of Prince’s iconic 1984 movie and Top 40s soundtrack, Purple Rain, in honor of its 25th anniversary. With interviews from pretty much everybody with in-the-know insight (besides Prince, unfortunately, but whatever), the 12-page feature gives you a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at one of the classic music experiences of the modern era.

To top off their Prince-centric edition, Spin produced an excellent Prince tribute album, Purplish Rain, featuring an eclectic variety of musicians, from Of Montreal to the Riverboat Gamblers, which they’re giving away for free on Spin.com. But “free” has one little catch: In order to access the album, readers must first answer a question, the answer to which can only be found by having a physical copy of the magazine* (it’s the last word on page 61).

This is actually a fairly clever ploy to get you to buy the magazine, offering readers a valuable, interactive experience between Spin’s print and online properties. That said, it’s still only a ploy, nothing close to  shutting down the Internet the massive monetary defibrillator needed to zap life back into the print industry. (more…)

Trent Reznor’s New Fiancee is Playboy Fine

mariqueen-lead

Trent Reznor is a lucky, lucky man. News recently surfaced that the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails is now engaged to Mariqueen Maandig, the viciously sexy lead singer of the band, West Indian Girl. (Mariqueen is actually Filipino, not West Indian, BTW.) Luckily for you, this exotic hottie has also appeared in Playboy! And it’s sure as hell not hard to see why Reznor wanted to keep her around for good. (more…)

Swine Flu May Shut Down Netherlands Summer Festivals

dutch-pig-lead

This swine flu thing is getting out of hand. Despite the fact that it’s really not that bad, the 24-hour news channels are all freaking out like a death cloud of killer pig-bees are swarming toward them. That’s here in the US. But overseas, things are getting even crazier. According to our friends in the Netherlands, booking agencies are considering canceling all summer festivals for fear of helping to spread this “pandemic.”

Due to increase of chances on the outbreak of swineflu in the Netherlands, festivals may be cancelled.  The company can’t afford to take chances of putting employees, artists and visitors of the festivals at risk of this quick spreading disease.

Festivals included can be well-known Pinkpop, Parkpop and Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise, as well as other smaller ones.
