Upon first listen, being the manly dude that you are, you’re likely to put down Los Campesinos and their finely tuned hyper witty, hyper flirty, hyper hyper rock and roll awash with wayward glockenspiels and moments that beg you to clap your hands to the beat.  You’d far rather listen to Mastodon.  But give these guys a minute and I promise you, you won’t be disappointed- you’ll likely get hooked on their catchy licks and ability to deliver truistic romanticism.  This album will  be their most honest foray into rock and roll yet, don’t worry about them being to lovey dovey.  Plus, they make the ladies smile from ear to ear with their comments on love and relationships.  Gotta love that.  Drops January 26.

Magnetic Fields “Realism”

The Magnetic Fields, led by Stephen Meritt, have identity issues.  I can never tell if they’re a 1960s straight rock set or a modern indie riff group.  And now, with “Realism”, they add folk to their repertoire.  Why can’t you be like Rob Zombie, guys?  Just playing.  From the few tracks online so far – particularly the outwardly melancholy ‘Walk a Lonely Road’ and the ‘Hee Haw’ novelty giddiness of ‘We’re Having a Hootenanny’ – I’m getting a darn fine vibe from this piece of work.  Drops January 26.

Three 6 Mafia “Laws of Power”

Three 6 Mafia’s track ‘Feel It’ off of upcoming tenth album “Laws of Power” is produced by DJ Tiesto.  That said, the song is loaded to the brim with his whirring power beats- strong enough to send even the nerdliest of clubgoers into full bodied dance spasms.  This is typical of Three 6 Mafia; so’s the in your face misogyny of ‘Lil Freak (Ugh Ugh Ugh)’, a song destined to be the greatest hip hop testament to getting your dick sucked in a long time.  I’ve got the feeling that this is going to be one of the defining pop/hip hop albums of 2010, check it out.  Drops in May.
