Going into our 30 Stadiums in 3 Days trip we didn’t quite know what to expect from the Royal’s Kauffamn Stadium. What we found out was a pleasant surprise.

We found pretty decent parking for only $10 — but it’s Kansas, so we’re not that wowed. Kauffman Stadium is in the middle of nowhere so there weren’t any pregame bars within walking distance for us to check out. Like Miller Park in Milwaukee, Kauffman is a tailgate stadium — but unlike Miller Park the tailgate scene is pretty terrible. After doing a loop of the parking lot we noticed many more Twins fans tailgating than Royals fan so we decided to head into the stadium early.

The Twins were still taking batting practice so we decided to watch from the Pepsi Porch in right field. This spot is great because you can catch home run balls And…drumroll please.. it’s located right under the waterfalls.

The Royals Hall of Fame is a must see and the kid zone in center field includes a wiffleball field, minigolf, batting cages, base to base speed timer, fast pitch and much more — it was very cool. As for the fans we saw more Twins jersey’s than Royals jersey’s. Our Twitter following said that All- Star BBQ in centerfield field was the signature food at Kauffman. We tried the “Designated Hitter,” which included a sandwich with one choice of meat and one side. John went with pulled pork and beans and I had turkey with mac and cheese. All-Star BBQ was one of the best signature foods of the trip to date.

The jumbrotron is the largest screen in the league and the waterfalls are way more impressive then we assumed, they are the largest privately funded waterfalls in the world. We heard a rumor that every seat in the stadium faces second base so we decided to put it to a test and it’s true, every seat in the stadium is a great place to watch the game.
