The 20 Most Anticipated Guy Movies of 2011: Part II
February 12, 2010 Posted in Entertainment, entertainment, homepage, Movies
It’s never too early to start thinking ahead. Laden with sequels and comic book movies and comic book movie sequels, here are the top 20 guy movies coming out in 2011, Part 2 (#10-1)
10) Battle: Los Angeles
Aliens invade California and turn Los Angeles into a war zone and there is only one platoon of Marines who can take them “Sumbitches” on. Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, and Ne-Yo star in what appears to be yet another end-of-the-world films. The movie is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (The Killing Room, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) and was written by Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter, The Mod Squad). It is being released in February of 2011.
9) Green Lantern
The second Ryan Reynolds comic book movie of 2011, and this time it is for a completely different company. After reviving Deadpool, Reynolds will play Hal Jordan and his secret altar ego the Green Lantern (sorry for the spoiler!) and his love interest is expected to be played by Blake Lively. The film will hit the big screen in June 2011.
For all the Sylvester Stallone jokes that we have made, at least the man knows how to make a movie. After the surprising success of Rambo IV, John Rambo will head into “a violent city where many young women have vanished.” Mickey Rourke is also reportedly set to co-star in what will hopefully be as bloody as the last installment.
7) The First Avenger: Captain America
After years and years of talk, they are finally making a Captain America movie as part of the upcoming massive Avengers franchise. Director Joe Johnston is working on this one after finishing up The Wolfman. He had previously directed the original Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Jurassic Park III.
6) X-Men: First Class
Yes, another X-Men movie but this one looks like it’d be fun. The film will focus on the series’ main characters (Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Storm, and others) as they first begin attending Xavier’s school. The film will be directed by Bryan Singer who kicked some major ass with X-Men and X2.
5) Call of Duty
This is probably the movie I’m looking forward to most even though video game based movies never turn out well (then again, few games are like Call of Duty). The masterminds behind Modern Warfare 1 and 2 are reportedly bringing the story of the coolest soldiers to ever grace game consoles across the world to the big screen in 2011!
4) Sinatra
Before there was ever “cool,” there was Frank Sinatra. Martin Scorcese is directing so you know it’ll be good and the story focuses on Scorcese’s bread and butter: how Frank Sinatra got involved with the Mafia and was written by Field of Dreams and Sneakers writer Phil Alden. The film will star Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank while Scarlett Johansson is reportedly set to play Marylin Monroe, Adam Sandler as Joey Bishop, Clive Owen as Peter Lawford, and Mark Ruffalo as Dean Martin.
3) Ghostbusters 3
That’s right. It’s for real. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and the gang are back (though it’s unsure in what capacity) and will be directed by
Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters II, Stripes, Meatballs) who is also the father of Juno, Thank You For Smoking, and Up In The Air director Jason Reitman.
2) Hangover 2
The ultimate guy film is returning to the silver screen during Memorial Day weekend of 2011. The film will be directed by Todd Phillips and the main cast is expected to remain. How they pull off a second Hangover film is a different story but we all can’t wait for the release of this one.
1) Batman 3
The Dark Knight is back! Despite all the rumors about director Christopher Nolan leaving the franchise, he will direct the third addition to the new Batman franchise which will likely star the Riddler as Batman’s nemesis. The film is expected out towards the end of 2011 and will undoubtedly make at least four trillion dollars.
Honorable Mention: Thor
I want to be on board but seeing Natalie Portman starring in this makes “me thinks” that they are going to make the story of the mythological Norse warrior into some sappy love story with significant social themes in the backdrop. Come on, just make another “300″ already!
