The 5 Greatest War Video Games
February 6, 2010 Posted in Entertainment, homepage, Tech, tech, Video Games
In honor of the awesomeness that is Modern Warfare 2, we thought we would take a look back at the great war video games that have been produced thanks to the wonders of seventh-generation console technology.
Note: We only included Campaign missions for war games that only involve people on people combat, thus, no Resistance 2.
5) Project Flashpoint
A completely unique game, it sacrifices a real storyline for the most realistic representation of combat out there.
As you play completely different missions with different troops, you are in control of everything, including leading your team into combat.
Unlike all the other war games that are mostly loaded with awesome shoot ‘em up action, Project Flashpoint rewards great leadership and making the right calls over firing your weapon.
4) Call of Duty: World at War
It’s pretty impressive when a franchise can release nothing but World War II games and have them sell like crazy every time.
World at War was the last WWII game made by Call of Duty and the last game they made before Modern Warfare.
The game is much darker than the others and much, much more violent, allowing you to literally rip the enemy soldiers limb from limb. The game had an all around great feel to it and was much more methodical than the past ones.
3) Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter
After producing some very solid games in the past, Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter reinvigorated the Ghost Recon franchise.
As all Tom Clancy games, the GWAR focuses much more on tactics than simply shooting all the guys you can.
The game also takes place in Mexico and there’s simply not enough games that let you take over Mexico with an advanced military unit to save the President of the United States.
2) Modern Warfare 2
The second of three Call of Duty games to appear on this list. The seventh-generation consoles have been good to CoD and they have been good right back.
A direct sequel to the absolutely awesome Modern Warfare, this game mixes the great gameplay of the first installment with a much faster pace and a much more in-depth storyline.
Modern Warfare 2, though in my opinion not as good as the first one, has probably captured the possibilities of the seventh-generation consoles the best, and is not so much a game as much as it is a film that puts you in control.
Also, the game is unbelievable visually, particularly the combat scenes in the United States.
1) Modern Warfare 1
After producing a ton of World War II games, Call of Duty finally changed their scenery and brought the franchise into the present with the story of an Arabic extremist who is used as a pawn by the Russian ultra-nationalists and the Marines and SAS that try to save the world from nuclear annihilation.
The awesome gameplay, storyline, and missions make Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare arguably the best war game ever made.

One of my favorite gameplay modes of all time in Call of Duty was the “Nazi Zombies” mode that was added as an extra to Call of Duty World at War! My jaw dropped with its graphics, it just blew me away.
i believe its Operation Flashpoint, not Project Flashpoint. It was an amazing game back in the day.
Project Flashpoint? are u nutz ?? of course it is operation lfashpoint !
Pretty sure you forgot BF2 which still blows these games out of the water. And Arma/Arma2 is the most realistic battle simulator out there.
